Does anyone want to get a group together to take the SDI solo class at Captain John's in Oronogo, MO this spring summer? I really want to do it and at least 2 other guys want to.

Maybe we can get the price down with a big group.

I would love to take the class. Do you know what the normal cost would be? Hopefully we could make it on one of my 3 day weekends off.

If I remember correctly, John charges $300 for the class but the price will go down the more people that sign up for the class.

I will ask him again on New Years Day when we are all there and make sure that this info is correct.

I couldn't justify it for $300, but might for less money. Let me know what he comes up with.

My next class plans are deep diver and nitrox. Deep because I can't find my card and Padi can't find it. Nitrox so I can go do that voodoo (gas) that can you do so well!

The class teaches you how to dive safely while solo. It's by all accounts a great class that even if you never dive solo will teach you lessons for life.

I know of instructors who've taken it so that when a student says I thought you said not to dive solo they can answer and say, yes you should not normally dive solo unless you have the training for it and here's what the card looks like.

I thought that I would talk with John when we are there and get some prices and also what kind of discount for multiple students. I will post the results as soon as I get them.

What are the Pre requisites for the solo class and did anybody end up taking it?

Minimum age of 21, AOW or equivalent, and a minimum of 100 logged dives.

I took the course a few weeks ago, and it has some very good information if you are not used to conducting these kinds of dives. Instruction was very good, and the material was covered until it was understood. No rushing involved. Overall a well thought-out course.

Have you used your solo cert yet DW? Also what equipment considerations are there? Anything above a standard Hogarthian config. with doubles?

Yes, I have used it at Capt. Johns. If you are using doubles with an isolation manifold, then you are good. If not, then you must have a pony bottle set up or alternative source of redundant air. Much of the time is spent discussing the planning of the dive. Including air, time, depth, etc.
