I am traveling to Singapore on business in Sept. I have 2 days to try to get in some diving. Can anyone recommend where to dive and a dive operation?

The best recommendation would be to go on a liveaboard. The White Manta goes on a dive trip every weekend. It leaves Singapore every Friday night and goesto nearby dive sites in Malaysia or Indonesia. It gets back to Singapore by Sunday night.
The food is good , the boat is clean andthe dives are interesting.

I just came from a trip last weekend and there were people who were in the same situation as you. They were hereon a biz trip but they made sure to get 2 days of diving. I alsomet some interesting people, there was a German who spoke English with an Australian accent :)

Or if time is really not permitting, you may try the "dive with the sharks" programme offered by the Underwater World.

If you don't mind horrible vis, you could always go to Pulau Hantu (Singapore's only dive site)...

Many Singaporean operators take divers to pulau Aur or Tioman in Malaysia. I went once with Friendly Waters - they were ok.

The "dive with sharks" at Underwater World is kinda fun... I really enjoyed diving with Gracie the dugong more though. If I'm not mistaken you can also combine the programs.

Was just on the MV White Manta last weekend - nice boat but quite crowded and rather expensive. Crew and food was excellent. Went to Seven Skies and Igara wreck. There is a fill panel and "clean air" on board so it is possible to do tech dives from the White Manta if you can arrange for He and O2.

If you only knew how close to Sipadan you are going to be you'd shoot yourself

Hi Kmakay, if the dive doesn't happen and you decide to go shopping/sight-seeing instead, give me a call at 81218840 and I'll gladly point you in the right direction :smiley2: Please remember to mention you're from ScubaToys forum okay?

I second the vote for White Manta (or Black Manta, their other boat)

if you are ever in Tioman please don't forget to contact Asia Divers and ask for Richard Mei. He is an ex-military diver who is one of the best instructor trainers ever. He knows some of the best sites in the region, including a fantastic dive where he showed me cobia- the only time I have ever seen them in my life.

Hantu bloggers run monthly sunday trips to the nearby Hantu island. So actually if you are already keen on diving Singapore this is the only group which run trips regularly round the year.

Pulau Hantu (http://www.pulauhantu.org/)

Although I would say - you have to look very closely to see micro stuff... although some rare days the vis might be more than 2metres.

I agree with the white manta suggestion, I have also done the dive with sharks program at underwater world and it is pretty cool if you don't have a lot of time to dive.

Was about to chip in my suggestion when I saw that the date of the first post was from last year, and that the OP have already came and left Sg. :smiley36:

Maybe the OP can tell us what he did when he was in Sg last September.
