I was at my LDS yesterday and saw a HP 80 that was about 15 years old with a fresh hydro and vis for $175 and was wondeing if that was a good deal for the tank.

I was going to ask about the 300 bar DIN valve but that was just covered in another thread with a bunch of great info.

I thought that the HP 80 was a great tank for my buddies wife, any of your thougts would be appreciated.

Thanks
Phil

I just picked up 4 new faber FX80s a few weeks ago for 199 each, but worthington+pst tanks tend to cost more, so having the brand could be more helpful.

Is it a "true" HP (3500) or a "new" HP (3442) tank? IIRC, the 3500's will be DIN-only. That could be an issue depending on your gear configuration.

If it works for your gear config though, doesn't sound like too bad of a deal. Our 4 Worthington HP80's this year cost us right around $209/ea I think.

A 15 year old tank and it is only $25-$50 less than a brand new worthington HP80 ? Screw it. Pony up and get the new tank.

Agreed... if you can still get that deal. Check first, new tank prices seem to have gone up quite a bit lately.

It is a worthington tank and it is a true 3500 and not a 3442. My buddies wife does not have a reg yet so that is not an issue. Where is (or was) that deal on the new tanks at???

Thanks
Phil

TravisD, where did you get your tanks. I'm interested in buying HP100s steel tanks. Thanks.

Are you sure it's not PST? I don't think Worthington was making scuba tanks 15 years ago, and I don't think they made any non-exemption (3500 psi) tanks.

I'd be willing to bet it's a PST, not a Worthington.

I guess I did not really check out the marking, it appeard to be a galvinized tank so I just ASSumed that it was a worthington. I have never seen a PST. I am sure that you are probably correct...

I too would be interested to know where TravisD got Steel 80's for $209

Have any of you used the Worthington LP 77's. Divesports has them for $199 which seems like a good price for a steel tank to me...
