View Full Version : Oronogo 2008 Season Opening Dive

I exchanged e-mail with John today. Oronogo will open the first Saturday and Sunday in April. However, that Saturday is the day of my son's First Communion.

I am looking at Sunday April 6th as a day to get together and dive. I can make any arrangements you all might need. I am think it would be a great day to get folks from the area together to dive, grill, and get some face to face and bubble blowing time.

I do not have my April work schedule yet, but am fairly certain of that day off.

Ideas? Questions? Comments?

When is the Norfolk dive, exactly? So as not to conflict.

I believe it's scheduled for the first weekend in April (Norfork).

Yup, same general date. I thought maybe you might be there as well. It doesn't make a big difference I suppose as there's more than enough divers around to do both sets of dives.

Would anyone be doing deep 'mix' diving on this gathering?

what will the temps be like at oronogo, in april

It is about 54-57 degrees at depth all year 'round.

The surface and the first 10 feet are likely to be in the 60s to low 70s. Naturally, the thermocline is higher at the beginning of the season than in august.

As for "mix" diving-there may be one or 2 guys up for a trimix dive. There was one guy on trimix on New Year's Day.

Was it Charley? I know he likes to make Oronogo his New Years dive and used Trimix when he does.

Thanks for the info.,,,,does sound like a good time....I will def. check the date as it gets closer. I know they frown on 'solo' diving for the most part.

Unless you have a solo cert. It is one of the few things that the solo cert card is good for.

Frown wouldn't be what I'd call it. But like all things the right card smooths it over.

Our dive club, Tulsa Aquanauts are planning on diving at Capt. John's on April 5th. It will be the first dive of the year for several of us. There are several members that dive every weekend at Tenkiller or Beaver though.

You're really missing out on some good diving by waiting for spring, unless you don't have a drysuit in which case I understand.

There will be a lot of folks there and DW will be doing some class work and I will be doing my supervising certified divers deal for DM.

If I can talk Jim into going I might get my rescue diver knocked out the first two days he's open over there.

I'll have my new fancy light and 7mm wetsuit :D can't wait!

Depending on the schedule for Norfork (I'm still planning on going there, though Divemedic is planning to be at Oronogo that whole weekend for his Tec class.) I might try to stop by.

I gotta meet DW and LW too.

It looks like I'll be there. I had to cancel my Norfork plans due to rsing fuel costs-let me tell you, it hurt to tell Billucusdiver I had to pull out, I really wanted to join them. So the wife is going to let me go to Oronogo instead. I have been land locked far too long!

I will be there both days, as well. Sounds like I will get to meet some of you guys for the first time. Going to be a great time.
Unfortunately, LW will be at her Mom's that weekend so it will just be me. But I forsee her making a lot of trips down there this year!

I've got a scuba class on the first weekend of April. Then another coming up sometime in May, but the date isn't firm yet. Depends on vis at either Oronogo or Beaver.

I suspect I'll be diving in Martha's Quarry Saturday evening after class.

I will be there Sunday for sure, and possibly Saturday as well. Not sure if I can convince Shar to brave the cold.

Hopefully the weather and conditions will be better than they were on the 15th. Will be fun, regardless.

I called John, they will not be open on Friday night. They told me that they don't expect to be open on fridays until the middle of May, They are waiting until is stays lighter longer so folks who do come Fridays will get more than one dive in-seems folks don't want to pay for only one dive.

Just about anything, would like a very casual place, we will be coming from just diving and more than likely dressed in shorts and t-shirts. There will probably be about 10 to 12 of us from our dive club.

I second Chatters on North Range Line Road. It is fairly close to the dive site, is casual, as sports on TV and good burgers.

DW and I have been there after dives before.
