Taken before I invested in the strobe.

Unfortunately, because of stupid bycatch in the California coast, the population of Leopards, swells, and great whites sharks have been declining. :(

Good thing, they are making a come back, but if I see them, I'll take a picture of them if I can. :)

Wobbegongs are everywhere here. I can garrantee to finds heaps on every dive. They are that common that I rarely take their picture. I will make that a new job for me when I dive next.

Also if you look at the sharks eye on the left you can see a sea leech which is common on Wobbegongs. I will get a better pic of them too.

Lots of great shots. I definitely can't compete with the two white sharks I'm afraid, that's got to be the winner hands down :)

This was sort of an accidental picture that I took when I got brushed by a blue shark and I basically hit the shutter as a reflex.

Hi Rob.

We get Leopard Sharks turning up in Byron when we get the warm clear summer water. Sometime we get up maybe 12 of these beautiful sharks swimming around. The have very fine teeth and are completely harmless. They are one of my favorite sharks as they have their own personality. I have seen some come up to divers and kiss them and even had one swimming up to me a do a roll and landed in my arms. Guess he/she wanted a tickle.

My best shark shot is the one of the 10' Hammerhead swimming right over me in the warm, gin clear waters of Little Cayman in only 25 fsw.

The only problem with the shot is that I NEVER SAW THE SHARK! Neither did my dive buddy. We were too busy taking pictures of the reef creatures. My roommate saw it and tried to signal us. Never saw him, either.

But, I'm SURE that it was really cool.

I use the Tokina 10-17mm almost always at 10mm. I do have the zoom gear on the Ikelite setup but recently the zoom ring on the tokina lens itself has come loose. So I have taken the zoom gear off and left the lens at 10mm. I also use the 8 inch dome port without the shade. I like having my strobes out wide on big stuff so I really have no need for the shade.

Here's the closest that I've ever been to the business end of a reef shark. Probably one of my most exciting ocean dives to date!!

The funny thing is that those pics were taken at 10mm which means that the animal is alot closer than it looks ;-)

If I ever get a fantastic head-on closeup shot of one
it's gonna be a nurse shark.

Hell yah! But that's why I'm so envious. I'm getting close to just packing up and moving down under so I can get half the opportunities you get and and a tenth of the pictures!

I am shooting the Sea & Sea DX 1G right now.

I have been watching some of the new cameras and housings and waiting to see what Ricoh follows up the GX200 hoping that Sea & Sea will continue the using for thier DX G series before I upgrade.

and I take it you've got strobes and all the accessories as well?

Yes... W/A lens, close up lens, 2 x YS 27 strobes and FIXX focus light. W/A lens is used 85% of the time.......Very happy with the camera, use it on land all the time, I even have the W/A and tele lens for land shots.

Here is the thread that I started when looking to purchase this camera.
http://forum.scubatoys.com/gear-information/3746-sea-sea-dx-1g-camera.html

I shot a Sealife DC600 before that and a Sealife DC500 before that and started with a Canon PS A40 in the manufactures case.

cool. thanks. I don't suppose the dx-1g and dx-2g use the same housing do they?

DevilDiver

cool. thanks. I don't suppose the dx-1g and dx-2g use the same housing do they?

No, the housing is slightly different but the lenses are interchangeable. This is why I am hoping they keep the G series. If they put out a 3G that I could use my current lenses with I would be all over it.

Ricoh (maker of the camera) is about due to release the next GX camera. Rumor has it they are keeping the line and hopefully Sea & Sea will do the same.

I havnt posted here in awhile so I thought I come back and say G'day to you all.

Over the past few weeks the amount of Leopard Shark action at Julian Rocks, Byron Bay has to be discribed as awesome. I believe its the most amount of Leopards I have seen for the season. Blue, clear warm water and diving in boardshorts also makes for simpely great dives.

Here are a few shots taken yesterday with a Nikon D90 and Tokina 10-17mm:

Awesome shots, makes me want to head back over to Australia. I don't think I can this year, but after visiting on business last year and doing a little (way too little) diving, I'll be back, it's just a matter of when. Those photos really make me want it to be sooner than later. This time I want to spend a few weeks, maybe a month or more, and not feel rushed.
