I've done my OW and AOW through the YMCA and will be taking SLAM Rescue in March. I'm thinking about going on to divemaster. I know the PAdi stamina/physical tests include the 15 minute water tread, timed 400 meter swim, timed 800 meter snorkel fin swim and the timed tow, Does anyone know if the Y has the same standards? Thanks.

I never knew YMCA did scuba. I always thought it was just a fitness center oriented around families.

my ow and aow are both through YMCA. great program. lots of education. I needed to understand everything before putting my face in the water so this was a good course for me. their dive tables are very conservative also a good point because We have to be comfortable with the simple before moving on the the next step.

The Y has a good program on diving, one of the better agencies in fact. As to the DM requirements, I have never heard and look forwards to seeing what they are. I suspect they're more involved.

The first part of this link spells out the YMCA DM requirements. But they don't discuss the physical part of the tests.

I think the "Y" was the first scuba certification agency. Or maybe it was L.A. County...not sure since I was in diapers then...:) (1959)

LA County was first.

I don't believe the Y's DM requirements are online anywhere.
