    Moving to Korea

I'll be moving to Korea in a little over a year. are there any dive spots there? Perhaps Cheju-Do?
The World is in danger. The danger is not from those who would do Evil, but from those who would witness Evil and do nothing.

Sorry about that, I did two tours there in the 1980s. I was not diving then, but did do (what the Army claims) was a basic mountain climbing course at Cheju-Do Island. Free climbing a 120' cliff face was not my idea of fun.

Black volcanic sand, cliffs, beautiful place that was used alot for weddings and honeymooners.

I can tell you more about the mainland, but my info is dated by 23 years. Much has prob. changed from then.

I can post a few old (scanned) pictures if your interested.

    cheers

Lots of diving here. Mostly all along the east coast, and down in Jeju.

You know where you'll be living yet?

I was also there in the Army in the 80's, and I also did the Rappelling and Mountaineering course - I had a Blast !! I also did the ROKA Ranger Course (I was the only REMF in my group to finish/graduate).

I did 1 tour at Camp Casey and extended twice (total of 3 years), Last two years were in Taegu. I didn't dive then either....

When were you in Korea, where were you what unit?

I think there's a river that kind of goes across the country, I can't remember the name, has big fences on either side? Diving there is really exciting I hear.
Some people are like a Slinky, not really good for anything but they do make you smile when you push them down stairs.

    1986-87
    The American Foreign Legion!!!
1/31st Infantry, Camp Howze---Spent most of our time at Liberty Bell.

    1989-90
1/5th Infantry, Camp Howze----Stayed on the 'Z' and at the firebases most of the time. Warrior Base was my second home.

    1986--
We would take slicky passes down to TDC every so often, usually would end in a fight or two. If we scored a 2-day pass, we headed to Seoul and really got into trouble. They didn't let us out too much, as we were on alert every other couple of days it seems. If I remember right, the Asian Games were going on during that time and Pvt. White's body had been found in a river the year before.

    was a long time ago..

I know I'll be in Seoul, working on Yongsan. What is the Rent like there now?

Renting in Seoul sucks: Small apts, and not cheap. You'll be getting paid in US$ and the Won is in the crapper now, so at least you'll make out pretty good with the exchange rate.
But you military boys get off-base rentals paid for by Uncle Sam, don't you?

At least it's easy to do trips to the east coast, and get in 4 or 5 dives on Sat/Sun.
The water sure isn't like Thailand... you'll want at least a 5 to 7mm. Or maybe even a drysuit.
