Seychelles vs Maldives

While planning my RTW trip, I will have to decide which island group to visit, probably can't do both because there are no direct flights from one Island group to the other. Which one would you choose? Anybody been to both?
I hear there is great diving in the Maldives, yet I have not heard of diving spots in the Seychelles, while they appeal to me more in top landscape.
Not even sure if this is the right forum, Since neither really belong to Asia?

Nope, sorry. I haven't gotten to the Maldives yet. I will, though, as it's a cheap flight from here.

Here's something you might consider:
1. Airlines which fly into both places, which influences how you'll go. For instance, Qatar Airways flies into Male, but only from Doha. You'd probably have to connect through Doha anyway if you started somewhere else, or else Sri Lanka. I don't know...

So it all depends on where you are going before, and how you can connect, and how you can make connections to somewhere else. Backtracking isn't a crime, but if you're doing a lot of flying you want to maximize your flying value. So this alone could influence where you end up going. So the Seychelles... were you planning to hit any of Africa? The Maldives... were you thinking about Sri Lanka or India?

Might I recommend having a look either at airport web sites or else a site like farecompare.com, where you can select an airport code and check on how you can go?

Especially as you are doing an RTW trip... not that you necessarily want to be a piker, but at the same time it's good for route planning and also costs.

That's an easy one, go Maldive's. The Maldive islands are sinking at an alarming rate, which means that within 10-15 years they will be gone. The seychelles will still be there.

Thanks, that's good advice! I was planning to go to Sri Lanka and then to either Maldives or Seychelles, from there to Africa, preferable Tanzania.
I know the Seychelles are closer to Africa. So I'll have to see. Thanks for the airport website recommendation. One month left for final plans, all the other flight plans will have to fall in place while on the go :-)
Not sure how Sril Lanka may turn out with its political unrest at the moment.

No no the diving in the Seychelles is awesome! It was however quite a bit more expensive to go there versus the Maldives (this was from South Africa)

Top side it is without a doubt the most beautiful place I have ever visited

No worries. As far as Sri Lanka goes, I know people who went last October over Eid, and they were fine. If you're just connecting through Colombo, you'd be fine too. I never realized how many flights go through Sri Lanka from here until I was pricing out my Christmas holiday.

Do let us know what you decided to do, yes?
