TSA Travel Lock

ST has the lock on sale for $5.95. Does TSA actually use the little tool to unlock the lock or do they cut it anyway? I have heard both ways and was wondering if it was worth it.

They have like a "master key" to open TSA-Recognized locks. If they can't open it, they cut it.

I "had" a TSA lock. I used it on a number of trips but on my most recent trip thru Fort Lauderdale on the way to the Bahamas it was either cut or removed and not replaced. There was the typical note from the TSA saying my bag was searched but no indication what happened to my TSA lock. So what they are supposed to do with a TSA lock and what they actually do may vary.

Yeah I had never had a problem with my TSA lock previous to this trip but it is the time your lock goes missing you will remember. BTW no gear was missing just the lock.

Unfortauntely, even these little locks may not prevent someone from getting into your stuff... if they're determined, they'll break it off. It could, however, discourage them from opening your bag and going to a different bag that is easier to open.
