Aloksaks are good when sealed but a PIA to make sure they are sealed. I have screwed up and left them open on more than one occasion and now they rest in my backpack cabinet probably to never be used again. I have switched to the double zip freezer Ziplock bags which are easier to use and extremely safe. Don't buy the sandwich bags as they are flimsy, but the freezer bags are very thick, double zipped and it is hard to miss not sealing them properly. Much cheaper to boot.

The problem is that it's really tough to make a non-cylindrical shape that's truly and dependably waterproof. Witness how common camera floods are in UW housings... you have to be really careful to carefully inspect o-rings each time they're sealed, or a single hair or grain of sand can lead to a flood. And that's the most common, most reliable non-cylindrical-shaped waterproof box I can think of, and even that has a far less-than perfect record.

Compare to your average UW flashlight, with one, two or three o-rings and nearly universally, a screw-on or clamp-on, round closure. Even canister lights use a a cylindrical battery canister (the only part that gets opened regularly). That's why the OMS tube is the most reliable option, and the oddly-but-conveniently-shaped "waterproof" boxes so frequently ... aren't.

It's still bigger than you probably want, but honestly the best bet is likely to be something along the lines of an empty canister from a canister light (which ends up being VERY similar to the OMS tube), which at least has a good, reliable method to mount to a waist strap and stay out of the way. You may be able to find a canister relatively inexpensive, especially if it's part of an otherwise dead canister light, and adapt it to your needs.

I had a Witz box, leaked like crazy. I now have an Otter, usually doesn't leak but sometimes does. I wouldn't carry anything out in the open, find a pocket to stuff it in.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I will pass on these. On the computer they looked good.

I tend to share Compudude's view on this and am going to scrounge up a suitably sized dive light and keep it available for use when needed. Except on boat dives where I will need to hand up weight I will probably just put it in the weight pocket of my Zeagle BC and carry it there when needed. In fact, now that I think of it I have a Dorcy light somewhere that led a short and unproductive life as a light. Maybe I'll use that.

Look up Pelican cases, they sell an assortment of waterproof cases that I've had a good experience with.

ducks are waterproof. I suggest putting your valuables in a mallard and then attaching it to your BC with a retractor.
