Need waterproof cigarette case...

Actually, I am looking for something I can use while shore diving in Bonaire, Curacao, etc.

I want something into which I can put a driver license, DAN card, car key, a little bit of cash, a credit card, maybe even a cell phone, and then clip on a bc or put in a pocket.

I have heard of Otter boxes not just leaking, but popping open, and I assume pelican boxes might do the same?

I see a lot of "waterproof" boxes that claim to be safe to 15' or so, but is there a small box or bag that I can safely take to around 100'? I could skip the cell and then a flood wouldn't be a huge problem, but still...

Anyway, I have read similar questions elsewhere, but haven't seen a good solution yet.

I've used my otter box on dozens of dives, and never had a problem. If you are worried about it popping open, I'd just rubber band it or something.

Keep It Safe Waterproof Box reviews and discounts, Witz

I've got one of these which I've had down to about 80' with no leaks, not sure what it's actually rated for.

Forget the cell phone and carry your cash in coins and you don't need waterproof.

Hey, there's a thought. I could also dispense with some lead, so long as I didn't spend the money on lunch between dives.

Actually, I don't like the idea of driving around the island without having ID, a credit card and enough money for an emergency. I also need someplace for the hotel and car key, although I suppose they they are usually brass, and I have just put them in a pocket or around my neck and they seem okay.

I don't know about the DAN card, but I worry about what extended salt water exposure would do to my DL and the magnetic strip on the credit card. Seems like waterproof would be best.

I would not assume anything about Pelican boxes based on Otter.

I totally agree Matt, I look at the otter website for information on the Otter and Pelican for info on the pelican. That way when I decide which one to get and it doesn't perform as advertised, I have the information on hand to deal with the manufacturer. "Well, "X" said this about your box" isn't good if "X" was wrong.

None of those little boxes are to be trusted, IMO.

If you really need something dry, I recommend picking up a cheap old UW flashlight from eBay, you can get them for peanuts especially if they don't work anymore or are older Halogen models. Still perfectly waterproof, though, to great depths. You may need a larger than usual one if a round shape is going to accept a credit card, though, not sure about that.

That isn't what I meant. I was referring to numerous reports I have from users of Otter boxes popping open or having a total flood at typical scuba depths. The construction and design of Otter and Pelican are similar, so I assume if one is unreliable, the other is likely to be as well.

Warranties and dealing with the manufacturer are unimportant; these things are cheap. The problem is the hassle involved when my driver's license or credit card floats off to Venezuela or the truck key goes off on its own dive while I am happily doing mine. And, strange as it sounds, I actually have had merchants refuse wet paper money.

I had read elsewhere of the flashlight idea but the "square card in a round hole" seemed like a problem. Maybe an SL4 would work. I might also look for an old housing for a small point and shoot camera.

My real hope was that some enterprising sort was making something I hadn't heard of that would do the job, but perhaps not. It can't be that hard for company that already makes camera housings or dive lights to make something economically.

Oms has a canister rated to 660ft but probably not the shape you are looking for
