I guess I am being difficult but I would prefer a bag that doesn't scream "diving equipment located inside, please help yourself."

The Walmart bags are nice and a great price. My travel bag came from REI which I used my annual dividend on, and cost me about $100.

<DIV>One thing with the Walmart bags, watch them on the airport carousel. My friend had her bag picked up by someone else who left the airport with it. Nothing like having someone else take off with your dive gear! Got it back two days later.</DIV>

<DIV>I do have a mesh bag for the boats and for local dives.</DIV>

I'd go with a no-logo plain jane suitcase of your choice.

I avoid anything that screams, I'm full of expensive STUFF!

I use a large rolling duffel. It's worked well. The only problem is that I can easily get more than 50lbs inside.

Keep that in mind when purchasing a travel bag. Having a huge bag takes up space, and generally you can't fill it up anyway with the airline weight restrictions.

I'm not sure how a solid black rolling bag screams that, but YMMV

My wife and I each have an Akona bag. Hers is the roller duffel and mine is the large duffel with no wheels. A Full set of gear including a full 3 mil suit in each of them come to about 45 pounds including misc clothes, etc. I have had the no-wheeled duffel for 4 years and it looks like brand new. I really don't care if someone thinks there is dive gear inside...thats like hiding golf clubs in those golf club travel cases :-)

How much do you think the Mares might weigh with two sets of gear? My wife and I are going on a trip in a couple weeks and I was almost decided on the Mares bag but I had'nt even thought of the airline weight restrictions.

It depends on the list of gear, but I would reckon, with wetsuits, it would be pushing 100lbs. Def. over 50. If you keep your regs out (remember not to include your hose-mounted knives) you could save a great deal of weight. Still, hoofing it to the boat might be cumbersome.

For flying to and fro, we use regular old suitcases we got a Ross (or TJ Max, or Marshalls, etc.) on the cheap! Once we're on land, or for our soon to be liveaboard trip, we roll out with the Scubatoys mesh backpack! Does the trick, inexpensive and with a picture of Joe and Larry, no one will dare steal my bag!
