STA that drops the tank down?
Ive been using an Oxycheq weighted STA and love it. It has two band slots at the top, allowing the tank to ride lower on your back if you use the lower slot. However, with summer coming up Ill be over weighted. Is their a lighter STA out there that will position the tank lower on my back?

Unfortunately, no. For the life of my I don't know why. You can get a Dive Rite STA and do "Nemrod Mod". Cut a 2nd set of slots below the top ones.
Another option when using the light weight STA is to remove the straps from the top slots and slide them BEHIND the STA.

Nemrod mod or behind the STA is the best fix, from what I've seen as well. |

It is a two part STA with an off center mounting hole. Turn the STA upside down to loweer the tank. ST sells it for $27 |

Wow, you'd think someone would produce one.
Ill try putting the straps behind the adapter. Any issues with slippage? As for the "nemrod mod", what could be used to cut the slots? ChrisA, I may be wrong, but if you mounted the two peice STA "upside down" it'd actually raise the tank? Feel free to correct me if i am wrong, it happens a lot! Thanks yall!

For the rest of us, I'm told a drill and a hacksaw will get the job done, but it'll be a PITA. And you'll want to passivate the plate to avoid rust when finished. (soak it in classic coke 24-48 hrs will do the trick) |

I have a two pice STA with my Oxycheq wing and with the camband going through the top STA the tank sat to high for me so I use the cam slots in the plate so that I can have the tank lower. I still use both of the STA's but without the camstrap in the top one.

If you're planning to lower the tank, do bear in mind that bp/w are supposed to hold the tanks higher than many BCs do. I see BCs all the time that people have holding their tanks halfway down their back. How on earth are you supposed to reach your valves when it's in the middle of your back?
If you can't reach your valves on your tank, you're putting yourself at serious risk if there is a problem. So for me, the usual placement on a bp/w works out fine. Yes, I wish it was a smidge lower for comfort's sake, but if it was, I wouldn't be able to reach my valves, so that's a trade-off I'll happily live with. Literally. |
