Velcro integrated weight pockest.
I have not lost a weight pocket, but have read here and other places that BCs with just Velcro securing the integrated weight pockets have a tendency to drop the pocket. Has anyone come up with a good fix for this? I have thought about installing a brass snap. Any thoughts?

What BC do you have? Velcro loses it's effectiveness after a while, but itll take many dives for that to happen.

I had an old BC with many dives on it drop a weight pocket twice on a dive. Luckily I was able to deal with the situation OK. It's not a fun when it happens and could be life threatening. First time was at about 35 feet. I knew it as soon as it happened. Depth was about 60'. This was in a quarry navigating from one object to another. Didn't see it fall but self it. Looked down and saw the cloud of slit from where it hit the bottom. Kicked down and got it. That was the best option because with a 7mil suit I couldn't remain neutral. This was during my DM internship while making a map.
Got a new BC after that. |

Not sure what BC you have or the system it uses but they have made many improvements to integrated weight BC's over the years. If you feel your system needs a little extra security it is probably a good idea but remember it needs to function if needed.
All I can say about some of these systems is that I have picked up many (At least 5-6) weight pouches from the bottom, Velcro and clips. The funny thing is when you get back to the boat with them they seem to have a whole basket of these things.... ![]()
