18 lb lift wing for Cozumel?

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of getting the OxCheq 18 lb wing for my Cozumel trip. Think that should work? I'll be carrying my canister light, my camera, the harness BC and gonna be in a 0.5 skin with a 3mm wetsuit.

The tanks I'll be using over there is an al80 at the place too.

Also can the wing be use on any harness without the need of the STA?

Here is the item in question. Oxycheq 18lb travel wing

Any suggestion on getting this item?

RoyN

I think you mean can the wing be used on any backplate without the need of an STA. I have an oxycheq wing with cam band slots and role control tabs on a dive rite plate, but I prefer the STA. You will see that everyone has different opinions on that if you search. That wing may not have role control tabs so the tank might move a lot. It does, however, have cam band slots so you could do it.

you going to be doing some serious night diving? I imagine that canister light is going to be a bit overkill

I'm going to take my 10w HID with me to Cozumel and will carry it on day and night dives. It'll work great for looking crevices and spotting things under ledges. Also, since it's adjustable, I'll have it on the "flood" setting and won't "beam" the fish to death. I also plan on doing a few cenote dives. It'll REALLY work great there.

The only thing is that you might need an alumimum backplate. six pounds of steel might be a bit much but then with an AL tank you might come out even. Maybe you want to check yourself in a pool first. You don't want to jump off a boat only to find you are over weighted.

With such a small wing, I'd not want to spend a long time on the surface in chop. Maybe take a big SMB or something.

Just dive with whatever you already use now.

I'll be carrying my DDS long pattern back plate, my 30# LCD wing, my Salvo 10w HID canister light, my XXL Jet fins, masks, DiveRite 2500 reg (singles reg), and my size 15 Rock boots. Hopefully, I can carry all of it on with me. I plan to either put a pair of shorts and shirt in my my bag to wrap around my light or nothing and buy clothes when I get there.

I think I'll get it all together and take it to the airport to see if it'd pass. I'll need to find the requirements and find out. If anything, my light, masks and regs and the most important, the rest I could check.
