DUI Delta vs Deep Outdoors Matrix

I am looking for help to make my decision a little easier. I am looking at either a deep outdoors matrix harness with a 55lb lift or a DUI delta with a 58lb lift. I like the options that both have to offer, although the DUI is a little more adjustable to the perfect fit. Anyone have pros or cons to offer for each of these. Right now I am leaning towards the Deep Outdoors due to having a LDS that can service the BC. Thanks.

Delta Experiance

I own the Delta. I've dove it for almost forty dives now. Love it. It took me some trial and error on getting the sizing just right. Now I can't hardly feel the weight of my steel tanks when I'm suited up ready to enter the water. Hope this helps.

Both are a good BC, and as far as servicing, the general design of any BC doesn't vary much. As long as a shop can get parts, they can pretty much service a BC, though service on a BC isn't commonly needed.

If you go with the DO bp/w, consider looking at it with a smaller wing. I have the 55lb wing, and while it works fine, I'm thinking about downsizing to a smaller wing to reduce bulk (for travel) and to make venting the wing easier. The 55lb wing seems to be the "Default" and just a little too big for single tank diving. I love the system though. I like being able to take 6 more pounds off my belt.

My wife has the DUI Delta Wings BC and loves it too. It is very adjustable and she likes the integrated weights.

Both have shown pretty much no wear in a year of diving (about 30 dives on each). If you keep everything clean, there really isn't any service to be done. Many of the parts (like the inflators) are generic items.

I hope you're buying these for use with doubles. That's a HUGE amount of lift that not needed (and in fact in the way) if you're looking to dive single tanks.

I agree. I have a Deepoutdoors Matrix on a wing that as I recall has about a 40 pound wing. That is overkill for a single tank. You may want to try using a hog harness without the Matrix harness. Much cheaper and simpler. I rarely dive the Matrix anymore and just use a webbing harness with appropriate d-rings.

I use 49 lbs for double steel HP120's, I'd say the smaller wing is what you want.

I'm really curious, who is this deep outdoors. I see them everywhere, it's like they came out of nowhere and now you can't run a corner without running across them.

Deep Outdoors Luggage Manufacturer

They have a website at deepoutdoors.com. You can get something similar to Dive Rite Transpac, but with backplate. Matrix with heavier duty d-rings, weight pockets, nice shiny SS backplate, crotch strap, single tank cam bands and heavy duty wing for under $400. I think they are a luggage manufacturer. I was unsure about the product. I went Transplate/40 lb Mach V Extreme $700.

Their gear is extremely well built and very robust. I own a Matrix with SS backplate and a wing with integrated weights which was very nice but switched to a hog configuration. I own some of their bags and other dive products and am very satisfied with them. Very well built equipment. You won't wear it out.

Thanks, I am still considering getting Matrix because of the quality and price. It looked like it was very well made. I just have to make sure that I get the right wing for it. I think the $400 cash deal included a 45lb black wing and it was probably last years model.
