bp/w & weight

Ok, I recently order my first bp/w.
[ BackPlate and Wing Package reviews and discounts, Dive Rite ]
* Hollis Aluminum Backplate (2lbs)
* OxyCheq Hogarthian Harness
* Dive Rite Rec Wing

Currently I'm using 6kg(13lbs) lead weight with zeagle Escape, Al80 tank, 3mm wetsuit.
Please advise how much weight will be good starting point?
Thanks in advance!

You'll drop about 2 #s for the plate ( a little less, because of Aluminum's SpG compared to steel or lead) and up to 2 # for the loss of inherent in the BC if it has a lumbar pad.

With a steel plate you could've dropped more. The aluminum plate will make only a small change. I'd say about 10# would be a good starting point.

Splitlip is right in the fact that the escape is probably at least a few pounds buoyant. If you still have your escape, then go to a pool or the ocean depending on what you're going to be diving (if possible). Then add weight to the escape till it just barely sinks. That's how much weight you can take off plus the weight of the plate. So if it takes 3 pounds to sink the escape, and the plate weights 2 pounds, you should take about 5 pounds off. Being the 1st time using it, I'd probably go with taking 4 off for this situation. If you can't arrange to test the bouyancy of the escape, then I'd suggest going with what Heavy D suggested and use 10# the first time, and adjust from there. It's better to be slightly heavy than too light.

I used to need 6lbs of weight when I use my jack bcd.
When I switched from my Oceanicpro bcd to my alu bp/w setup, I shaved 4lbs off immediately. I suppose I can probably shave another pound off but the smallest weight they have here are usually 2lbs, so I just stick with that.
