What is up with Dive Rite?

Are they launching a new line of wings, or are they getting out of the wing business or business in general?

The sales are huge. Everywhere.

I just recieved their quarterly newsletter and it doesn't mention wings at all. I've noticed the sales too...interesting.

They have already released the 2009 Travel Wing at least that is the way it appears looking at their website. They list the sale model as the 2008.

Maybe they made to much or sold to little of wings in '08. This is their way of making way for their new stuff. good deals. Wish that I liked their wings.

I too have noticed some big savings on wings in the last few months. When I think back, this has happened before when they made some big changes and introduced some new wings. i.e. a year ago you could pick up a new Trekker for $180 because the new 50# trekker was making the market.Liuckily, I like the Dive Rite wings and got a trekker when the price was right.

I was wondering the same thing....are they on the verge of some brand new wind technology that will change the way we think about everything......OR are they just getting ready to fold?

Well I can't say for sure in today's economy but I'm reasonably certain that Dive Rite is not going out of business. If they were more than just their wings would be on sale. I think one of two things is happening. Either with the recent surge of wing manufacturers (i.e. Hollis, DSS, etc.) they are having a hard time competing so they reduced prices or they are getting ready to release some new products. It really could be either of those because in my opinion their competitors offer a better product in this area, but on the other hand they could have something new coming out because they discounted the MR11 canister light the same way right before they came out with the LED 700.

Best guess?

They're going to drop color and stay with DIR black for a while to get economies of scale on raw materials.

Here is my guesses.... could be one or many (or all) of these factors...

  1. new model coming out and clearing out old inventory
  2. old inventory isn't moving because the economy is down and gear sales are down.
  3. gear sales are down and they are trying to move product to increase sales so they don't have to reduce their workforce any more than they have already had to do. (sales/marketing work force and corporate/assembly work force).
  4. other vendors are having closeouts and they have to compete
  5. Because of all the above factors and with the economy and sales being down, they are just doing what any company would do to keep alive and make it to better times. (nothing wrong with that).
