Oxycheq Deluxe Harness

I thought on my new BPW setup, I would go with the Oxycheq Deluxe Harness against my better judgement. I can say with some certainty at least for me, it was a mistake and I will be sending it back. The first annoyance is the width of the padding. It is very wide which feels good on the shoulder but as it comes down by the arm pit it pushed into my arms and prohibited movement slightly. The second was the location of the buckle below the padding. No matter how I positioned the straps, it was always in a place that seemed to dig into some part of my body. The harness is well made and if it fits you comfortably and I have no doubt it will last a very long time. It was also very easy to install and adjust.

I will admit that these harness systems are highly dependent on the wearer, but for me this one wasn't a winner. Oh and I do have quite a bit of experience fitting backpacks so I don't think this was user error in the fitment process. I like Oxycheq's products as a whole and this won't steer me away from trying their products in the future.

Next I am going to continue not learning my lesson and try a harness that is simpler but has rings in the shoulder strap section.

I think you meant to say "Hog Harness. That is all."

(since he was discussing the bp/w he has!)

I have a Hog but wanted to find something a tad more comfy. So far no luck.

Have you considered the neoprene sleeves that just slide over the webbing of the shoulder straps? They wouldn't interfere with the freedom of hardware placement that makes hog harnesses so appealing, and might help a bit with the comfort. There are a couple of companies that make them. Bit of a PITA to set up the first time, I'd imagine, but once they're in place that should be that.

Edit: Such as this: OxyCheq Shoulder Harness Pads reviews and discounts, OxyCheq

any thoughts on the OMS deluxe harness?

I'm considering it for my BP&W package...i like the fact that it has a quick release buckle on the left shoulder

It'll get the job done, but there are unnecessary d-rings and an unnecessary chest strap. And last but not least, roughly double the price of a regular hog harness seems a bit excessive for a quick release.

Streagan, Have you dove the hog harness yet, or are you comparing how it feels on land? I have noticed that any minor discomforts I feel while walking to the water completely disappear below the surface.

Another trick you can try is to setup the harnes so that it crosses behind your back before going over the shoulders. This changes the feel, and it is sometimes recommended for larger guys with big shoulders. I changed over to this setup initially when I didn't like how the standard way felt.

I've usually read of that tip as being for smaller divers who otherwise have a hard time cinching the harness tight enough... you've heard it going to larger divers?

I have friend with the Oxy delux he likes it, but does think its a bit of an overkill, in essence if you want a bp/w get a bp/w and add as needed.
