Travel Friendly BC
Hello all. I'm searching for my first set of gear. One thing I am trying to keep in mind is that I would like items which are able to be packed easily and not take up too much space. Can anyone recommend a BC which will be able to be packed in a carry on travel bag easily? I want to try to avoid the additional costs of checking baggage every trip I take.
Thanks! |

OxyCheq Ultra Lite Back Plate reviews and discounts, OxyCheq OxyCheq Mach V Signature Wing reviews and discounts, OxyCheq They used to have an 18# travel wing that was even lighter but I don't see it any more.

AL Backplate is usually just under 2lbs, HOG Harness and 20#-ish wing would be my vote. If you need to shave another pound you could go with the Oxycheq Ultralight Travel Backplate that weighs about 10oz. Fairly inexpensive setup as well. Packs very flat and weight is very low.

Anyway, I third the BP/W for travel. There is the soft BP above or you can get an aluminum or travel backplate that is not much heavier. Pair that with a singles wing and harness and you should be under 5lbs. |

ST has the 18# MV. Just not shown on their site. I bought one last month.

Depends on what features you are looking for. A good option is the Zeagle Brigade or Escape. The Brigade is a very good tech BCD with a light weight wing on it. If you want a less expensive option the Oceanic Islander BCD is a pretty good option on sale at ST for $225.
I have seen a few good write-ups on the Zeagle Scout, but haven't seen one in person. |
