Hey BRR... I've been using the Mares Airtrim system since 2006 and simply love the thing! Unless I absolutely have to, I'm never going back to the regular hose!
The airtrim works absolutely great! The inflator/deflator is always exactly in the same spot. It deflates in almost all positions (via 2 different valves), whereas with a hose you have to position yourself more carefully. I find the inflator button lets air in a bit slower than most inflators I've tried, which makes pinpointing buoyancy easier (in my oppinion). It's very reliable even if it's mechanically more complex. The only down side I've found is it's not the traditional setup, which means that in a rescue situation the other diver might not easily find the controls for your BCD. That's why I've made it a point to always show new buddies exactly how it works before we enter the water! Many divers frown on this system because it's it's not the traditional way... And that's OK if it doesn't suit them... But personally I embraced this new technology and think it's the best thing since sliced bread! I won't go back... Just my 0.02$ ![]()

I have a Mares Morphos Limited Edition Airtrim BC and its great. Being able to dump air in almost any position is terrific. Its always where you need it. The main downside I see is not being able to integrate your alternate air source into your BC.
The only problem I have had with it is one day when I forgot to clear the water that had gotten into the BC on the previous day I had troubles adding air at depth. The bottom vent would fire, letting out air whenever I tried to inflate. Once I cleared the water it was fine. |
