Wing/BC combo

Forgive if this has been covered before, but I am considering purchasing one of these thingamabobs and would like input.

Right now I have a compact Dacor Condor that is ok for some diving but is limited .
Was thinking of backpack/wing as I started out many moons ago using ATPAC by now defunt Watergill Co. and liked some of the features, hated some others.

I am between Backpack and wing, or purchasing one of these combos (several brands-styles on market).

I am looking into wreck and possibly some cave diving training, I like streamline and less clutter.. keep it simple ya know.. and cost is pretty darn importat right now.

I prefer weight belt versus integrated... just my preference.. dont beat me up bout it please....

Any input/thoughts will be welcome warmly and thanks in advance.

If you're going to go tech, and wreck/cave diving is usually considered "tech", buy a backplate and wing (BP/W) setup.

For immediate info, you could use the search function. There have been several good threads about this previously. They should be able to give you some idea of what you want.

Otherwise, the first thing to decide is what sort of back plate do you need - So - What sort of diving do you do?

Where? From a quick look around, a comparable Oxycheq setup from ScubaToy's would be cheaper - And IMO the Oxycheq wings are of better design.

Any backplate and wing will do for you. There is apek, diverite, hollis and many others almost no bad things about them at all.

How much is a rig from Oxy? The one from DSS is $450 or so. The harness kit from DSS is clearly superior (much better buckle, includes crotch strap). The plate is also much better for singles (flatter, allows weightplates, plastic inserts to protect the webbing, cam band tensiorers, etc). The wings are just as good IMO (I have a dozen dives on Oxy wings, many hundred on DSS). The DSS gear is made in the USA, unlike the Oxy stuff (MX and China). Tobin is way more helpful (and way, way friendlier than Patrick). I'm much happier sending my funds to DSS than Oxy.

A good place for backplate is by Hammerhead, its cheap, but the backplate is made of high quality. The person who got me into it is Msilvia, hopefully he say something in here.

I suggest the BP and Wing combo also. Much more versatile and adaptable. I wish that I would've started there in the first place.
