Required Hardware?

Hello again,
I am finally back from Afghanistan and am setting up my BP/W. I was hoping it would come with all the nuts/bolts/hardware I would need but it did not. I got the harness fed through and set up without too much trouble and now need to attach the wing and STA. I don't want to make multiple trips to the hardware store so I was hoping someone would be able to tell me exactly what I need. It looks like I could just use some bolts, washers, and a couple wing nuts but I want to make sure I get what I'm supposed to get. If anyone can let me know sizes and whatnot I'd greatly appreciate it.

First- thank you for your service to our Country!

If I recall the bolts for my STA are 5/16. They seem to be standard carriage bolts with matching washers and wing nuts. I replaced one of the bolts with one that was slightly longer since the grommet on the webbing made the one that came with my STA just a little too short. Get marine grade stainless steel if posisble. Some poeple use delrin nuts instead of wing nuts. I might do that someday, but I'm using wing nuts for now.

I use 5/16" stainless carriage bolt and DSS delrin thumbwheels. The bolt length will depend on your particular setup.

The STA should have come with the hardware to attach itself to the plate. The plate itself doesn't need any hardware, otherwise.

Aside from that, I agree, I think 5/16 carriage bolts are fairly standard, but in reality, use whatever size seems to work, because as long as they're reasonably thick and fit through the holes without any problem, it's not like they have to work with other stuff. Bring your plate and STA along and find whatever fits, and that's all you need. Not a bad idea to pick up a couple of spares while you're at it (especially a spare wing nut).

A hacksaw can customize the bolt length to the precise length desired if they're not available in exactly the length you'd like.

I got everything from ST. It didn't come with any hardware. I'll head to home depot and hope for the best. Thanks for the suggestions. Hopefully they let me walk in with all that stuff in my hands!

You should give ST a call or shoot them a message. I'd be totally surprised if Larry cannot help you. I constantly see him jumping in on these messages and helping. He should be able to look up what you ordered and tell you what is missing.

If you tell me your wing, plate and STA, I can probably tell you the lengths and type of bolts. Not tonight though. LOL

I need to call him about my order anyhow. I'm headed to panama city to dive on thursday though so I thought I would just go ahead and set it all up now. It really shouldn't be difficult to do. Just thought I would double check on here. Thanks for the unput everyone.

Don't count on 5/16... it's common, but so are 2 other sizes I can't recall off the top of my head.
