OMS 100lb Bladder

Guys im heading over to the US (Houston) in a few weeks, i was wondering if anyone could direct me to a shop in that area that stocks OMS Wings as I am after buying a new one.

one thing i have already spoken to one and they quoted be a silly price infact it would be cheaper to buy it in the uk.

Ron

PadiPro,

Go to OMS Dealer Search http://www.OMSdive.com. There is a spot on this web page to search by US zip code. Enter 77001 (this is one of many zip codes for the Houston, TX area). The results will be for a 300 miles radius around the 77001 zip code, so it should include all of Houston and some neighbouring cities as well.

Are you sure that you want a 100 pound wing? Unless you are diving wet with steel takes, many, ther is no reason for that much lift. I didn't know that anybody made such a wing.
What is it good for? Not bashing. Just can't fathom a reason for that much lift:

Just a quick correction, steel cylinders don't require that much lift either. Doubles need more of course compared to singles, but not that much.

I'm not going to speculate why he wants that much lift, he didn't ask for advice on buying a wing, only that he wants one and the others did fine by pointing him the right way.

The big OMS wings seem to be popular over there, judging from the Yorkshire Divers and BSAC forums. A friend is the local OMS dealer here and he says the gear is popular overseas in many places.

And a quick second correction - that line isn't against "wet with steel tanks," it's against "wet with steel doubles." And even with steel doubles, we use 38-40lb wings all the time. The answer to the steel doubles issue isn't *more* lift, since many divers rarely need more than 40lb when properly weighted, even with doubles; it's redundancy in case your primary buoyancy fails. And a drysuit is often what provides that redundancy.

just so you know, I’m in the UK and as you may know there are a few wrecks off the south coast of England, so this is a divers playground so the type of dives we do to see the better happen to be deeper, your right in what you say about a 50lb wing being ok for the job but in the UK we dive with Steel twins and steel stage + Deco bottles, again 50lb with all this strapped to you can will do but is getting close to the limit,

So i heir on the side that the more lift I have available the better and adding the fact that I intend to go trimix next year.

Also i already have a OMS 100lb Double and i just want a new one as this was an hand me down

Ron

That is one of the gears I just reserve when I go diving in Scapa Flow next week.

Since I've got you on the line Ron, can you tell me why you guys use steel cylinders for stage and deco? I know here we use them for that as well, but AL tends to be very popular here and I'm curious why it's not there. Like I said, I was sure you had a reason for the large wing.

You should post another thread and tell us about your dive experiences on the wrecks, I'd love to hear them, and welcome to the board by the way.
