Just a quick question...

Do you HAVE to keep your LP inflator hose connected at all times.. i.e. I have some shallow pool inspection work to do today for a friend, and I am just wanting to toss a reg on my new fathers day gift (19cf pony) and a weight belt, and hit the bottom of the pool. But being as I do not have a 1st / 2nd stage for my pony yet, I have to use my primary reg / octo / computer but I do not want to have to toss on the BC for it. So, will there be any issues with me not keeping the LP hose attached to the BC, I.E. water in the 1st stage or anything like that....?

The hose end is sealed so it will be fine.

Yup. What AWAP said. I actually have a dedicated LP hose clipped pff to my harness just for inflating DSMB's.

Send a message via MSN to plot
and if you're still concerned, take the lp hose off and plug the first stage if you have the extra stuff to do that.

Nope, you don't have to have it on, but taking it on an d off frequently increases the risk of cross threading. This can be bad for future use. Personally, I would leave it on and just remember to rinse it well when I finish the dive.

My first set of questions would be how deep is the pool? What's your backup plan if you run out of air? You are aware people have drowned in pools?

Not trying to scare you or be the voice of doom. The nature of the question suggests you are newer to diving or unfamiliar with how some equipment works which potentially ups the odds of an accident (no offense intended).

Now that the discaimers are out of the way...

...No you don't have to use your bc or have the bc hose connected. Yes you can disconnect and reconnect an inflator hose underwater without damaging them or your first stage. Yes, I would probably not hesitate to jump in a pool with a pony tank setup to do a quick check. Yes I believe you are aware that weights will pull you down to the bottom and if you run out of air staying on the surface will require you to drop weights and/or hold onto the edge of the pool (that's the edge above water).

No need for the BC the hose will be fine. I have jumped into pools with a Al80 and reg. to make repairs before. No BC or anything else.

Yeah, I know about the need to check air, hence the pro plus 2 , over kill I know but hey, you can never be to safe with the constant monitoring of your breathing, and computing it to a breathing algorithm to figure out your total bottom time remaining. and as far as the weight was concerned, Yeah, IF!!! I would have needed it in an 8ft pool, I could have ditched the weights and did an ESA consistently breathing out to avoid a bad case of DCS. LOL
