New Sherwood Avid vs old Sherwood Avid

Does anyone know the differences or changes in the new AVID bc from the previous version?

As far as I know it is just the weight release system. But I am not sure. I have a 2006 model with the CQR2 system. I do not know what year the newer weight release started...

I think as long as you have the CQR2 weight release system (non-velcro), you're good. Any other changes are fairly irrelevant, but the velcro weight release system was horrible.

that makes sense... must be the difference, the weight release. significant cost difference made me think there must be a flaw in the older version. thanks CD

I have an old style and the weight release system is great (not vlecro). It has quick release style clips that are positioned in the back of the sleeve that the weight pouch goes in. The new one has a very similar system that is positioned in the front of the sleeve, makes it much easier to secure when replaced while wearing the BC.

Other differences that I notice on the new model is some color changes with a more noticeable AVID emblem and the snorkel pocket is slanted to allow easier access than the old style that is straight up.

Maybe Larry can tell us more.

The instructors I spoke to saw people losing weight pouches quite a bit. Sometimes that's a huge problem, sometimes it isn't. I'd rather not take the chance... would you?

Plain velcro is not a good way to hold lead in a pocket, at least not without some other means of reinforcing the hold.

If you have an AVID with a velcro style security system for the weights it must be really old.

Hmm. It's possibly I'm remember incorrectly. I thought we (me and the instructor) were discussing Avids, but it's possible I'm mixing things up a bit. I know the one I use in the pool is the new style.

Could be, I don't know how long the Avid has been out but mine is 8 or 9 years old, I would guess, maybe older I really don't remember.
