I have a HammerHead SS plate with a hog harness. I have asoft 2 inch wide crotch strap, a STA-less Oxycheq Mach V 30# wing, and a 55# Halcyon explorer wing. I also have EMT shear on the waist belt.
<DIV>I am going to get a second plate so I don't have to undo and re-do the tank straps when I switch from doubles and single tanks diving. I just don't know which to buy. I want another SS, so I can keep weight off my belt, but I also want an AL plate for traveling. I guess I could go to a kydex plate for travel, but I just don't trust them. Seems like it would be too easy to snap at the harness slots.</DIV>

As I stated earlier, I am toying with the idea of a BP/W. As I look over the posts I notice the different plates. The majority seem to be SS with various sizes. (I assume the alum ones are lighter weight for traveling). How do you determine what size plate?

Yes, the Al plates are lighter, and some people prefer them for traveling. There are other lightweight plates such as the DSS Kydex plate and Oxycheq cutout SS travel plate. The choice of plate material should also be based on how much weight you need. If, for example, you're diving with steel tanks in a wetsuit, you might be overweighted with a SS plate.

As for plate size, They are usually based on height, and most companies with multiple plate sizes will give size specs on their website. Most manufacturers only make one size of plate, and it will work for most divers. If you're taller or shorter than average then you should probably look at a different size plate.

one more question. Will most wings fit on any backplate or are some manufacturer specific?

<DIV>I like the Deluxe harness because the cheststrap gives enough slack to easily get in &amp; out of the harness. Much easier (IMHO) than a traditional hog harness.</DIV>

Most all of the plates and wings are interchangable. I think it's 13" center to center hole pattern.
