i have never used a backplate before but i would like to try one and purchase one . i like the idea of the stainless plates and like and silgle tank adapters that have weight in them like the Halcyon. with the weight of the plate i would be able to dump some of the lead from my weight pockets sence i have to add an extra 6 lbs. when using my drysuit. iv looked at Halcyon, dive rite , deep divers and oms and there are so many options im confused.. any back plate ,drysuit, cold water divers using only steel tanks have any helpful info for me on puschasing a backplate set . thanks

Hammerhead has a great plate with great value.

<DIV>They have a single tank adapter that weighs a little over 5 pounds as well. Hard to beat the price. Plate with heavy STA for $99.</DIV>

Yes, the HH plates are a great value, but they aren't "finished". The edges of all the holes (and the plate itself) are in the rough. You can make it finished with a file and some 1000 grit sandpaper. Of course, you don't have to finish it. It'll work fine like it arrives.
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>If you're not up to finishing, then the other plates are all good choices. Just decide whether you need the extra weight of SS or not. But it sounds like you do.</DIV>

Fire Diver is correct. I did spend a few minutes knocking off the sharp edges with a file and a dremel.
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>I second the Oxycheq. ST has the 30# signature series for $225 right now. That's a great wing. It trims out real nice.</DIV>

I think ST carried Dive Rite? Dive Rite makes quality gear. There is also Deep Sea Supply, DSS for short, they also make great gear. Halcyon makes gear, but it's more expensive (paying for name), I wish Ic ould afford them, as their factory is about 20 minutes from my house....(Dive Rite is only an hour or two from me, I think.) Then there is Oxycheq and OMS, don't forget Golem Gear. Lots of people make BP/W setups. Hard to go wrong with any of them.

DSS is a great value for a finished highly refined product. The 30 lb wing is tough as nails and the system is pretty solid without using a STA, and you can add weight plates instead of a weighted STA.

<DIV>IMO DSS is the best, and yes I've seen the others. I'd place Oxycheq as a tie with them however, I prefer the DSS for how it's finished. The others are good, Halcyon is over priced but good.</DIV>

You suck so much. Only because I wish I was that close to DSS.

If you are that close, go talk to Tobin, I'm sure he will show you around. Also, tell`em I said to let you borrow/rent a BP/W to try out.

Michael

<DIV>Do you have the HH ll? I just visited their site and according to them (which I will take with a grain or two of salt) for the HH ll"We also include a shot blast satin finish, a process that virtually eliminates the need for hand de-burring." Are they a little full of it here? </DIV>

Also, are the shoulder straps on the harness adjustable at the shoulders or is it all just one piece of webbing that would have to be adjusted everywhere? <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" />
