Playa del Carmen operators?

I'm heading to PDC the first week of November for 5 days and wonder who people generally recommend for dive ops. I'd like to mix upPDC, cenotes, and probably a day in Coz. I'm considering Tank-Ha and would like other suggestions.

Giggie, I can't help you out on dive ops as I went diving with the resort folks. The salt water diving is okay. Decent fish life, not much reefs. Not much to see UW (when compared to Coz).

However, the cenotes are awesome! I personally like the Taj Mahal the best. The water was cold, 76 at the mouth, down to 72 at depth. Truly stunning divings, a real buoyancy test for sure. Here is where you need to spend your time as it is a truly unique experience.

I went to the Riviera Maya and stayed at an all-inclusive between Cancun and Playa 4 years ago - we went down to Playa for a couple of morning dives and used Dive Mikes - http://www.divemike.com/ - good service and friendly people/staff.

I cannot remember all of the dives that we went on, but the tortugas dive really stands out as we saw large brain corals and sea turtles for almost the entire dive (it was a drift dive) - plus as we were coming up, we went right through a huge school of Tarpon - as this was still one of only about 10 to 15 dives in my log book at the time, I thought it was really awesome.

I would have liked to do a Cenotes dive at the time, but I was pretty inexperienced and did not have the time to go on one.

I have enjoyed diving with Scuba Caribe in the Riveria Maya and Cozumel. I did boat dives and cenote dives with them. They were easy to get along with, very helpful and always professional. The only outfit that I didn't like in the Cancun / Maya Riviera area was Marina Scuba Center in Cancun. They seemed to be extremely disorganized and at times, unprofessional. I would definitely recommend (www.scubacaribe.com/mexico_en.htm) Enjoy your trip!! I can't wait to get back down there.

I did my third Playa trip in July and used Jason at http://www.fantaseadive.com
He can plan your Coz and cenote dives as well.

He's a solo dive operator and will only take you and your group out. I'm planning a trip next June and will use him again when I bring the family down to dive. Someday I'll get my photos online.

I disagree on not seeing much UW. There are no huge coral formations like Coz but the marine life makes up for it nicely. Turtles, rays, barracuda, Sea horses and much more.

Enjoy your trip! I'm ready to go back!

If you want to dive the cenotes, I highly recommend Dennis at Aquanauts/Diablo Divers (http://www.aquanauts-online.com/). We did a cavern tour with him last month, and he's a great diver and guide. I am heading back down as soon as I can to take the cavern class with him. He's located in Puerto Aventuras, but you'll have to head down in that direction to get to the cenotes anyway. We also did some ocean diving with his shop including the tortugas dive and were very happy.
