Glad to hear nothing horrific happened to the place. I'm supposed to be headed to Riviera Maya next summer for some diving...

Lots of time before most of these trips and a new storm heading in. Looks like it's even further south but you never know til it get there. good luck, good diving.

I e-mailed a dive operator in Cozumel earlier this week. She told me that the only damage to Cozumel from Dean was some beach erosion and road damage on the windward (east) side of the island. They were already back in operation.

Looks like Dean was just the beginning.

This is not looking good folks. When does the hurricane season taper off BTW? We were there on vacation when Emily was approaching. When Champion air found out they were going to close the airport they flew down the night before and evacuated as many as they could get on the plane. When I got home and saw all those people stranded down there I was really happy I had gone through a travel agent to book my trip else I'd have probably been sitting down there with them. One occasion where I was glad to give up a day of my vacation to come home early.

Runs until Nov 1, but should taper off by early Oct.

I'm heading down at Christmas this year. What kind of water temp can I expect? I'm planning on taking a 2mm shorty. Will that be enough, or should I take a 3mm full?

I think the average is around 84 - 86F. 3mm full will be fine for extended dives. 3mmshortie for your average dives.
