Has anyone dove Muhadual Mexico

I am looking at a trip to Belize next spring and I am taking a bus from Cancun to Chetamul. I am reading online about the area and up pops this little gem of a sleepy fisher villiage with supposedly one of the best "unspoiled virgin reef system"

I could manage to swing by and add 5 or 6 days worth of diving if it is all that they are saying it is, anyone been there?

Actually there are two towns, Mahahual and Xcalac. I usually do not bring these locations up when people ask about diving in Mexico (trying to keep them a secret). If you have the oppertunity it would be worth your while if you like sand streets with little traffic, European backpackers, ocean breezes and local food but it's not for everyone.....

Mahahaul:
Welcome

Xcalac:
XTC Dive Center, Xcalak, Quintana Roo, Mexico

If you get the oppertunity to dive Chinchorro take it........

The fist link Dreamtime, came up as "Welcome". Last time I was there they were the only actual shop. They are good people but remember thing move slow down there......
They used to have primitive cabanas for rent but they got taken out in the hurricane and have package deals with a couple of eco resorts and small hotels now.

Sure, but you will have to cross by land and take a water taxi. I have a time share on Ambergris Caye and I know there is a small bridge conecting to Mexico with a check point but I have not crossed there yet. The other option would be to cross on the mainland at Chetumal and take a ferry.

Caye Caulker is freak'n cool, it's like a little hippy island.

Wow the more I research this place the more impressed I am. I booked my flights yesterday I managed to get CVG to Cancun for under $300 this time with Delta non-stop though. That beats my flight on Dec 29th which in Continental with a stop in Houston. As May draws closer I am going to start spamming you Devil for travel tips as far as crossing the border, water taxi vs. Tropic Air flight and so on.

Did my Discovery Scuba in Mahahual. It's a tiny little fishing village. Beautiful! The Discovery Scuba was with Dreamtime as well.

It is a cruise ship port but I don't think it's visited that often and there is a large tourist area about 2-ish miles away for the cruisers. There's not much in town besides a few small eco-resorts and a mom and pop shop.

Here's a picture from the dive boat:
