Grand Caymans info

I am trying to find somewhere to go next July. I am an Indo-Pacific diver and the only Caribbean location I have found I like is Cozumel....I was looking at Bonaire and just looked at over 300 underwater photos of Bonaire....did not excite me.

I have dove Grand Cayman before and was not impressed. I have heard Little Cayman is good...???....Any suggestions on dive ops...where to stay?....what did you see?....any info is appreciated.

Little Cayman diving is better than the West End of GC, especially the sites closer to Georgetown. Any of the resorts on Little Cayman are good places to stay, it's really a personal thing which one you would like best. The East, North, and South sides of GC are also generally better than the West End.

For some people it's going to be hard to get excited about a lot of the Caribbean diving if they have either done a lot of trips there, or have done some Indo-Pacific diving. It's simply a different scale and you have to develop an appreciation for different things. (Including that you didn't have to spend 24 hours on a plane to get there. )

What exactly was it you liked about Coz?

I don't think anything would impress you in the Caribbean after diving in the Indo-Pacific region...it's like comparing apples to oranges....

I have dived all over the Caribbean several times....I love it and never tire of it...I have also dived in Fiji and there is not comparison but for the money it is the Caribbean....not sure what you are looking for or expect...you may want to try something more remote like Tobago lot of current diving and big stuff

It takes over 10 hours to get to GC from the west coast.

I like Cozumel as I have seen as just about as much Marine life there as anywhere else in the Caribbean...like the drift dives...warm waters....the reefs....etc......in looking at 300+ photos of Bonaire....it looks as though Coz is just as good.

That explains why you were not impressed! That is probably the worst diving on Grand Cayman. O.K. for new divers maybe but beat up from to much traffic.

IMHO the best diving on Grand Cayman is the East End.Huge pristine walls, swim throughs, gorgeous coral and a blue abyss below you.Not a lot of big animals although you see an occasional Turtle,Eagle Ray or Reef Shark.

Have only done 2 dives on Little Cayman on a day trip from the Brac. It was impressive.

There is GREAT diving on Cayman, you just need to know where to look and dont believe the (Eden Rock,Caymans best Dive Site! ads)

I will be returning in November (7th visit? ) planning on doing some trimix dives. I have been wanting to see the Sponge Belt for some time.

Thanks for the info.....read the report on Tobago by Doc...looks like July is the rainy season and vis can be bad....and during the good vis time...the water can dip well below 80.....and it looks like it takes almost as long to get there as Palau from the west coast...LOL....So back to Little Cayman...or hell just might head back to Christmas Island (Kiribati) in my 5 top favorite places.

Thanks again for the info.
