How is the diving there?
I'm reading a travel essay called An Embarrassment of Mangoes by Ann Vanderhoof. It's about a couple that decides to quit their jobs for two years and sail from Canada to the Caribbean and back. Anyway, so far it seems their favorite destination is Grenada. Doesn't seem like they dive, but was hoping that there is good diving there, since their review of the island is so good. Looks like there are a lot dive sites http://www.grenadagrenadines.com/dive_sites.html.

Thanks for the feedback. As I did more research over the weekend, it sounded like the diving was going to be good. I think I have to add this to my list of places to go.
How was the pricing for diving, accommodations, dining, etc.? I didn't dig that deep yet.

I stayed at True Blue Bay Resort. Used the house dive shop and never regretted it. Google the web site and you can get details.
Mention that the PlatypusMan (from the SingleDivers trip referred you). They may have forgotten by now--and I'm sure the damage was repaired... |

I just came back from Grenada last week--took a short weekend to visit and dive the Bianca C., which even with the slight research you've done, I'm sure you've read about.
Grenada is a great island, especially for the budget-conscious diver...at EcoDive, which is right on the beach, nitrox is free (which gets you that extra BT on the deeper wrecks) and they're a great operation. Stayed at Siesta Hotel, which wasn't anything fancy, but total per night including taxes and fees was only $60US for a double queen--can't beat that! As far as diving goes, it has lower vis than some areas in the Caribbean as well as stronger currents, but in exchange you get to dive the "titanic of the caribbean" as well as some other (cooler) wrecks... Plus, there's an excellent sushi restaurant not far from St. George (the capital)... I'd definitely recommend Grenada! |
