Trip Report - Bonaire / Port Bonaire Resort

Hi Everyone,

Just got back from a wonderful week in Bonaire. This was my 4th visit to the island and I can honestly say it gets better every time. We stayed at Port Bonaire Resort for the first time and really liked it. It is right across the street from the airport so I was a little concerned about the noise potential but anm happy to report that it was not a problem at all. When inside the room, you couldn't here the planes at all. When outside, you could hear them but it wasn't bad and they flew pretty infrequently.

The resort itself was very nice. A large clean comfortable room. It's location was very convenient to all of the south dive sites which we explored at length this trip. Tanks were available 24/7 and nitrox was free.

Like usual, the sea life was plentiful and the reefs spectacular. This year we saw 6 eagle rays, 5 turtles, 5 octopuses, countless squid and even a couple of reef sharks.

If you haven't been to Bonaire, go as soon as you can. You won't be disappointed. We got in 29 dives last week and everyone was excellent !!!

Thanks for the report Bob! Just for kicks, what does a trip like that cost? Especially to stay in a place like that...

Thanks again!

Thanks for the report. It's long been on the list and the thought of logging 2 dozen dives in one trip just makes me smile

Thanks for the update Bob! We have 2 weeks planned on Bonaire next summer and I can't wait. It'll be our first trip, and I'm thinking not our last.

Boomer,

Price varies a little depending on the season and your location. We fly via Air Jamacia out of Baltimore and with air and two people, the price runs between $1500 and $1700 per person. That includes air, resort, boat dives, rental truck, and unlimited shore diving. Pretty well everything except for food. The other good thing about Port Bonaire Resort (and several other resorts) is that the room came with a kitchen. We had breakfast and lunch in the room and ate out for dinner. That's a nice way to cut down on the cost a little.

Bob

I forgot one other thing. We booked our trip through www.bonairepros.com . We have used them several times and have been very pleased with their service. They often have special deals running so I recommend that anyone with an interest in going to Bonaire check out their website and get on their mailing list !!

I did a week there last November and it was awesome.. though the lack of non-diving activities kinda makes it hard for me to imagine a 2 week trip there. I hated to leave but I don't think my ears could've handled much more! We did take the afternoon before our morning flight to ride horses.. some ranch-like place near the airport.. was pretty fun!

Stayed at Captain Don's.. planning on Buddy Dive whenever we head back I think.

We were also in Bonaire last November...for 10 days. Had no problems being there that long. We also rode horses over to Lac Bay and rode them in the water. We did the donkey sanctuary and driving tour of the island. We didn't get arounfd to windsurfing but will try it next time. Love the convenience of shore diving! Will definitely go back!

Thanks for the link to Bonaire Pros. Thinking about a trip in Jan. Oh, what was the pool like at Port Bonaire Resort? We tend to spend lots of time floating in the pool or the ocean, so like a nice pool.
