Mahahual Mexico

Does anyone know what the post hurricane status of Mahahual is. I know that they took a direct hit this summer. My wife and dove and stayed at the Dreamtime resort last February and just loved it.

Shortly after Hurricane ??? (a couple months back) I talked with Marco Martin of DreamTime Diving in Costa Maya. He said the place was devastated. He said by the end of November some dive shops in the area "may" be back up and running albeit not at the same level as before.
As for Marco and his DreamTime Diving, his resort was destroyed and he said he "might" be able to resume his dive center by the end of the year BUT, he would have to find other places for his guests to stay.
Sad, very sad, because that is a very beautiful place with incredible diving. Plus it is remote and relatively unknown which makes it special.

That really is sad. I hope they get things up and running again. It breaks my heart to think about their tragedy. The hotel and dive staff were so nice when we were there that it felt like family.

I was in Mahajaul the month prior to the hurricane this year.(2nd visit) My buddy Chefdiver talked to Yama (French pat.) who was managing the dive shop and was told the cabana's were pretty much destroyed but the office still stood. The dive shop had about 4ft of sand after the water went down and the beached boat out front ended up 75'-100' back behind the shop in the jungle.

Most of the town is gone and the cruise dock was destroyed not to re-open for a year.

The story I got was they should have the shop running soon but no cabanas for about a year.

Also heard Xcalak faired pretty well with no major damage. If you have plans to go this area try contacting Susan Redman at XTC dive center in Xcalak and she can help with a resort or hostel.

If anyone makes it down there please post a review!!!!
