As for Marco and his DreamTime Diving, his resort was destroyed and he said he "might" be able to resume his dive center by the end of the year BUT, he would have to find other places for his guests to stay. Sad, very sad, because that is a very beautiful place with incredible diving. Plus it is remote and relatively unknown which makes it special. |

I was in Mahajaul the month prior to the hurricane this year.(2nd visit) My buddy Chefdiver talked to Yama (French pat.) who was managing the dive shop and was told the cabana's were pretty much destroyed but the office still stood. The dive shop had about 4ft of sand after the water went down and the beached boat out front ended up 75'-100' back behind the shop in the jungle.
Most of the town is gone and the cruise dock was destroyed not to re-open for a year. The story I got was they should have the shop running soon but no cabanas for about a year. Also heard Xcalak faired pretty well with no major damage. If you have plans to go this area try contacting Susan Redman at XTC dive center in Xcalak and she can help with a resort or hostel. WWW.XTCDIVECENTER.COM If anyone makes it down there please post a review!!!!
