Perhaps we need to ascribe a new meaning to the acronym "NDL"...

Non-Divorce Limits

I may be going to Beaches in Turks & Caicos too, but a couple of weeks before you, and i will be dealing with the same issue as far as a non-diving spouse (NDS)

Are you back yet? I'm leaving in less than two weeks. How was it? How was the water temperature?

Back now

The diving was very good, although the Beaches boats got very crowded later in the week. Water temps were about 78, air temps around 82-84 during the day, viz was between 60 and 80 feet, just beautiful! Got to see several sharks (Grey reef and nurse), loads of fish of all varieties, and the highlight of the trip , a HUGE Manta Ray! I was so excited to get to see such a beautiful creature. Enjoy your trip, wish I was going back!

Very cool! The manta ray is a nice bonus! I must admit I enjoyed my diving in the T&C. Maybe I'll go back some day...

Many thanks. I'm signed up to dive with Caicos Adventures nearly every day. I might go out with a Beaches boat (WTF? I'm staying there) later in the week... we'll see.

hmmm.... 78 degree water. I was thinking of taking my shorty, but I might take the full 3mm.... Gotta think about it. I don't like being cold.

Doug, if you have the full 3mm, forget about the shorty. The water there is anything but warm!!! Even with my 3/2mm fullsuit, I found the water there to be getting to me after a 45 minute dive!

Just my 0.02$

Or, I might just take the 7mil. I wore it in Key Largo last march. I was hot for the first five minutes, but then was very nice the rest of the dive....

I think you'll be fine with a full 3mm. Unless you plan on doing more than 3 dives a day. The weather there is nice and hot and will warm you between dives. You could bring a hood which would reduce heat loss significantly if you tend to get chilly. That's what I did during my Philippines trip. On the occasion where i was getting chilly, I added my hood to my 3/2mm full. It made a substantial difference...

Have fun on your trip!!!!

hmmmm......

Looking thru my dive book, I've done 74 degree water in everything from a 3mil shorty to a full 7mil suit. I love the warmth of the 7mil suit, although it's a bit bulky and heavy for travel.

I'm thinking I'll take the 3mil full and the 3mil shorty.... and a beanie. That way, I can easily mix and match for the need.

I'm only doing two dives most mornings, but I'm sure I'll be snorkeling with the kids a lot in the afternoons. I plan on being wet with salt water at least 10 hours each day!

I really gotta watch the weight in the bags... I'm packing shorty's, fins, masks, snorkels for two kids and a wife, as well as my dive gear. The weight adds up really quick, and I hate hauling around too many bags. I may just over-stuff a bag to about 70 pounds, and pay the extra money.

Thanks for the info.

I've been there two years ago. They have several DMs and most of DM were very nice. One DM were very strict and gave us lecture after some of us went deeper than 60ft. I really liked the Beaches because our kid had their own activities. It is all inclusive so we did not have to worry about money. You'll have great time over there.
