Destination for Solo Female

Any suggestions for a good spot for a solo female traveler? Preferably someplace in the Caribbean. I would like someplace that I can walk around or leave the resort by myself if I want to, so relatively safe would be good, and someplace I can dive a bunch. I don't want all inclusive, or anything super fancy. Actually I like as basic as possible. I've been to Belize twice and would head back there in a second, but want to try someplace new first. I don't want to go to Cozumel or PDC, etc because I already have a trip there planned in July. I'm thinking about maybe Utila but would love any suggestions.

Have you considered doing a liveaboard? Other suggestion would be to check out Bonaire.

I have considered doing a liveaboard--especially since I got an email from Nekton yesterday with a 10 day itinerary that sounds pretty good. I thought about Bonaire too, but I was a bit concerned that being a shore diving destination, it might be hard to hook up with someone to dive with at any given time.

Utila would definetly fit what you're looking for. Also, Roatan in West end if you want to party/socialise a bit more. It's quite safe as long as you take basic precautions... These would be good value options!

Roatan would be a good choice, some of the dive ops work for a couple of hotels and you can meet people that way.

I can't say first hand since I'm not going to Bonaire until April, but I hear that finding someone, or most likely a group, to dive with is pretty easy. I don't need a "buddy" really, just people around in case I need some help. I'd like to think that we're all each others buddy!!

When I dove with Nekton this past year the DMs were eager to "lead" a dive anytime they were asked. I remember thinking they would be a good op to go with if I took a trip by myself sometime.

I say Bonaire. It is extremely easy to hook up with other divers. Just leave word at the dive shop. When we were there I didn't want to do a dive and my husband was hooked up with another diver within the half hour. Then we met another single diver through the other fella and he dove with us a time or two. Many single divers there.

Have you considered Antigua? We were married and spent our honeymoon there and it felt safer than most Caribbean islands I've been to.
