1st Cozumel trip

A little less than a month ago my wife and I went to Cozumel for the first time.
My wife was fresh out of her open water course, having done her certification dives the weekend before we left. We has less than perfect conditions in Puerto Vallarta during her certification dives, the water was cold, the first day she tried on a full 5mm suit but it wasn't enough for her so we rented a 7mm farmer john for her second day, (she gets cold easily, I dove with a full 3/2 mm and could probably use a 5mm to be really comfortable) visibility was about 5ft on the first 30ft or so, after that I got better to about 20ft without much to see.
As you can read it’s not what I would recommend as a first diving experience, she was wondering what it was that I like so much about diving, and unsure if she wanted to practice this sport at all.
Once we got to Cozumel the story changed completely, we dove with Caribbean Divers, and our DM was Ruben. He took really good care of my wife and made her nervousness disappear. She now has decided we should do this on a yearly basis (or was it me?).
For those of you who wonder whether or not Coz is a good place for a newbie to go diving after my experience I have to say yes it is, don’t shy away from going just because you have no experience, just choose your dives accordingly.
In total we did 10 dives, one of them deep which my wife sat out on the boat. I’ll leave guys with a link to a video from the trip.

Glad you and your wife both had a good time. Yeah, Coz is some truly beautiful diving, with sites to suit virtually any skill level.

Generally speaking, most ops in Coz will take it into consideration when planning the dives if you tell them up front you're newly certified. Then stick close to your buddy and the DM and you should have a great time.

My wife and I go to Coz every year for a week. We love it. We stay at the Grand Cozumel and use Dive Palancar. They have the greatest DMs. The boats are in very good shape, usually not too crowded. We just got back from a cruise in April which stopped in Coz. We dove with Sand Dollar Sports. Their DMs were good, but the boat was a small converted pontoon boat. It fit the party size, but was very slow in getting anywhere. We're planning on getting back there in December.
