Question about Cocoview Resort - Roatan

Everyone,

I read that a few years ago, alot of people had "intestinal" problems when visiting Roatan. Most of these issues seemed to center around Cocoview Resort. I heard that this might have been resolved but just wanted to check with you folks that have cvisited Roatan in the past year or two and see if anyone experienced any problems. Thanks for your help.

Bob

I was at Fantasy Island which is in the same spot as Coco View last May. There were four of us and I dont remember any of us being ill at all, and I did not hear of anyone being ill. We ate 100% at Fantasy Island tho.

You hopefully just have a case of an isolated incident. I've never been to Coco View but one of our favorite dive shops in Louisiana (Caribbean Dive Shop) loves that place and are part of the Coco Nuts club... they go just about every year..

anybody warn you about the sand fleas yet???

I have been to Cocoview each August for the last two years - there has been no problem whatsoever. Go and enjoy your dive trip!!!! Feel free to PM me if you have any further questions. - Chris

I also stayed at Fantasy Island (located directly across the bay from CoCoview) in 2006 diving many of the same sites as CCV.

I strongly recommend that you stay with bottled water while on the island. Others have disagreed with me on this, YMMV.

If interested, my FI review can be read at PlatypusMan's Site - Fantasy Island Beach Resort, Roatan Honduras

I was with Maggs at FI in May 2007, and she is right-no problems with our group and I didn't hear about any problems with any others either.

CCV had a pipe problem some years back, I believe. Long since fixed. As far as I know, it didn't cause a dent in the Caribbean's highest return visitor rate.

I was at CCV in Dec 2006 and had no problems. I do recall seeing something about a new well being installed a few years back.

There were some problems a few years ago. They have been resolved. I have been to Cocoview 6 times and never had a problem. It is one of the ,if not the, easiest places to dive your brains out in the Caribbean.

We've stayed there three times without problems. We've heard the problem had to do with some of the local cheese that was served. It was also used by several other places with similar problems. Cocoview spent a lot of time and money tracking down the problem and all that seems to be in the past now.

I just was at Fantasy Island, had a good time, didn't get sick, but a few in my group did. We got a prescription for Cipro for traveler's diarrhea, oyu also might want to pack some over the counter medications like Peptobismol, or Immodium. Make sure you only drink the bottled water, adn wash you hands a lot.
