Gear Service Schedule

What do you use in the form of keeping track of scheduling service for your gear? Excel spreadsheet, plain old calendars, log book...?

When it breaks, fix it.

I just remember the month I get everything serviced. I try to keep it all in the same month.

Uhm, what was that month again?

Michael

Oh man that would be an expensive month! 8 tanks, 6 sets of regs lots of O2 cleaning.... no thanks! I try to spread mine out. Regs in the winter (Jan-Feb) tanks at the end of summer (Oct-Nov ish)

I use the "To Do" function on my calendar and set it as a repeating entry for the next several years. I use the purchase month right now -- not sure if that will change as I get more stuff. Right now it is 2 sets of regs in March and 2 tanks in April, so not bad.

Regs are the most critical thing to keep serviced, next to tanks. I get my regs serviced in Feb., the month that I bought the original set. If I add more regs to the collection, I just get them serviced early if need be, so that they can all be on the same service cycle. At the point that I end up with a true spare set, I may push that to March, just so I can have one set being serviced and another available for use.

Tanks get vis inspections as needed, as indicated by their visual inspection sticker, so I don't really need a reminder of that.

BCs and drysuits, I suppose, get serviced on an as-needed basis. Mine are used enough that I'll notice any problems as they develop.

I use my calendar's reminder function to remind me of service deadlines also, not that it's very difficult with only one real hard date to remember (Feb for regs).

Regs every winter, visuals and hydros when they expire, everything else when there is a problem. I do not turn my computers or BCD in for an annual inspection. I have 2 computers so if I have a problem I have a backup. If I have a BCD failure it'll more than likely be a slow leak or a power inflater problem and I can dive with either of those failure modes. When I get some money I'll invest in having a backup BCD or maybe even trying another BP/W although I hated my first one. I do like to have redundant gear with me even for local diving so that any failure is nothing more than a nuisance.

I do mine throughout the winter.
6 tanks & 4 regs & a BP/W with 2 wings.

I just spead it out because I do dive some in the winter, maybe 1 weekend a month on average. I don't mind cold water, I just hate not being able to get warm when I get out.

My main reg is Atomic, so it only needs servicing every 2 years. I O2 clean my tanks & have them VIP ed 2 at a time. So, If I want to make a long weekend trip to the panhadle, I always have a set a gear ready to go.

As long as my battery shows that it's good, I just wait till the computer needs fresh batteries. I also have a backup comp, but it has user changable batteries, so It has never been serviced.
