How practical is this weight belt?

Just wondering if you dive with one of these, or if you know someone who does. The weights are 2 pounds each. Is it an overkill on the belt to be spread out that way on your belt?

I think it's overkill to have that much weight. What is the person wearing two 7 mil suits?

If it is comfortable and it works then fine. 34lb is a lot of weight. Switch to a steel tank and maybe transfer some weight to a BC for more comfort and/or trim control.

Larger weights may not conform as well to ones waist as several smaller weights. This is especially true for freedivers. May be able to use a couple of extra retaining clips to distribute weight for more comfort.

That does seem like a lot of weight. Maybe for a drysuit with really heavy undergarments it would be appropriate.

It doesn't seem like excessive weight to me, as I personally need 32 lbs of ballast with a 2 piece 7mm farmer john and jacket with the popular AL80. If I wasn't diving with steel tanks, and a stainless steel STA and backplate, my belt might have a comparable load.

I wouldn't distribute it like that though... I find larger weights easier to manage, and trim out better.

I wear 30lbs with a 7mm farmer john, so 34 lbs doesn't seem nuts for someone. Although I use integrated weights, I agree if I were using a weight belt I'd go for fewer but larger weights.

It would be uncomfortable, and yes... they do make 5s, 10, and I even have a couple of 12s, though those are maybe a bit too big.
