If it is comfortable and it works then fine. 34lb is a lot of weight. Switch to a steel tank and maybe transfer some weight to a BC for more comfort and/or trim control.
Larger weights may not conform as well to ones waist as several smaller weights. This is especially true for freedivers. May be able to use a couple of extra retaining clips to distribute weight for more comfort. Last edited by cmburch : 07-26-2008 at 04:16 PM. |

That does seem like a lot of weight. Maybe for a drysuit with really heavy undergarments it would be appropriate.

It doesn't seem like excessive weight to me, as I personally need 32 lbs of ballast with a 2 piece 7mm farmer john and jacket with the popular AL80. If I wasn't diving with steel tanks, and a stainless steel STA and backplate, my belt might have a comparable load.
I wouldn't distribute it like that though... I find larger weights easier to manage, and trim out better. |
