I think everyone ends up with a kit whether they mean to or not. After diving a while you start to accumulate this and that. Say you break a mask or fin strap, you buy two to replace it. One replaces it and the other is thrown in the dive bag for when it happens again. You should always carry a small tool kit though. Hoses can work loose and o-rings do go bad.

I try to keep a small save a dive kit that contains the most important stuff to replace in it. Mostly cash.. it can replace almost anything.... if a dive shop is near. :P

I always carry my Leatherman with me. It's already saved a few dives. I do need to put together a proper save-a-dive kit, though. I already have a save-a-camera kit: spare o-rings, batteries, cf cards, etc...

Mine includes a complete spare regulator, ready to go; a backup computer (sometimes 2); spare mask, hose and tank o-rings, port plugs, light bulbs, scubatool, mask & fin straps (with end connectors), zip ties, duct tape (the good stuff), silicon and christolub, Soft jaw pliers (those damn scubapro hoses), mouthpiece....
<DIV></DIV> <DIV>I get to use stuff occasionally but end up lending it to others more often. Last trip to Coz a diver was looking for a snorkle keeper. He had a hog rig so I asked why. He had lost or brokenhis secondary necklace. I lent him my bungee necklace off my spare regs. </DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV>I try to keep tank o-rings everywhere. In the box of o-rings, on each of my tanks (on the valve cover and/or the burst disk bolt); andon all my 1st stages on the yoke nuts and/or the dust covers. </DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV>IMHO a spare regulator will save more dive than the best regulator warrenty out there.</DIV> |

I bought a cheap clear plastic fishing tackle box and have thrown together a few things that I try to have with me for local dives and have a smaller kit for traveling. Has saved me on a few trips!

I need a bigger box for my save-a-dive kit. Seems they always grow bigger than expected.
I try to keep the usual save-a-dive stuff, like o-rings, along with a selection of tools (stainless steel from marine stores last best), like two pairs of pliers, a hex key set, a couple of adjustable wrenches, and of course a Scuba Tool. Then add in several feet of bungee (a diver's duct tape), 10-20' of cave line (a diver's other duct tape), several SS bolt snaps in various sizes and types, and of course duct tape! I also have a DIN pressure-checker, and really need to add a transfill whip and a Nitrox analyzer to the collection... |
