I usually stop in one of my LDSs for Dive Training Magazine. However, I have it on my iPad. Went to look at this months issue and they want 3.99 for each month now! I suppose that is their right but what a crock.

Why? I stopped my subscription because I get them free from my LDS. They give him dozens of copies every month, and there are always left overs.
Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.
I'm with fire diver on that one. Every now and again, there's a good article so it's nice to be able to pick one up for free from the LDS. I used to get a complimentary copy when I did a specialty, but I guess they stopped that .
I once saved a man in Wichita just to watch him dive...(inventor)
I know they want to support the LDS model which is fine but I would really appreciate electronic back issues or even better annuals. I think they could keep the online stuff 2+ months behind if they wanted to keep the LDS thing going. Charging $4 for a magazine that is in a more tree friendly format and is normally free in a tree unfriendly format is a bit much.
I subscribe and find many articles useful or interesting in most issues. Not the training stuff so much but I really appreciate the biological articles and some of the tropical destination stuff is usefull as well. SOme of the Q&A stuff as well. As for the iPad, does each issue of the mag cost $4 or use of the app cost $4? I actually (after having done system design and programming for 35+ years) would rather have the physical mag in my hand rather than reading from a screen.
Free is the right price!
Have you looked at so of the online free mag's?
X-Ray International Dive Magazine | Front Page
Tech Diving Mag | Free online technical diving magazine

I'm surprized they dont offer a both type subscription for $1-2 more.. I have a hard copy sub that is mailed to me monthy.. but would love to either be able to digitally subscribe or do both..
paying for 2 seperate subs sucks..
I would drop the hard copy if they would at least do 1 or the other..
oh well.
Dive Training Mag has never actually been "Free" it has a shelf price of $4.99 easily viewable on the front cover just above the bar code. Dive shops are provided with complimentary copies that are for distribution to students who are currently enrolled in courses. This is done in conjunction with a free subscription for students for a 6 month period.
What is supposed to happen at the dive shops based on the agreement with Dive Training Mag, is the number of complimentary copies is based on the number of divers who receive training in a given month. When you take a course you get your free copy and a 6 month subscription.
From what I have heard the mag is cracking down a bit on the dive shops for giving the mags out for free when a diver hasn't done a course. Easy solution here is take a course at least once every 6 months and you continue to get your subscription for free for ever.
