Well, if YOU can't find it, you can be reassured that no one else can either.

Diving sucks. Don't try it.

They called themselves Guerrilla Divers.
Composed of elite divers with Macho mentalities, back when men were men, and FEAR was a lispy companion of the common Man. It was a time before insurance liabilities, lawsuits or beauracratic regulation of the "sport".
Guerrilla divers didn't need "Buoyancy Compensator Vests". In fact, "Anyone who needs a BC deserves to drown" was a popular adage.
Exploration and the Hunt came first, excitement and fun followed. Safety was the stepchild of fitness, good reflexes and a cool head.
This was a time of great Adventure.
[/snip]

*****************
Hey Tim,

Just read your signature line for the first time...

Are you implying here that you are a Guerrilla Diver, or you just wanna be one when you grow up? Are you trying to to emulate these divers?

Do you think those Guerrilla Divers (the ones that have macho mentalities and don't wear BCDs) are as afraid of underwater sticks as you are?

I'm wondering what these Guerrilla Divers would think of you and your fear of underwater sticks? Do you suppose they would consider you the common man with the lispy companion called Fear?

Just curious. I can't imagine a Guerrilla Diver feeling woozy over a submerged tree limb.

I may be wrong. Any Guerrilla Divers out there want to confess to being afraid of underwater twigs?

jk Tim, all in fun

I dive...I've been called a Gorilla...I laugh in the face of sticks, in fact sticks tremble at the sound of my approaching fins! Is that close enough?

Nats etal:
For your reading pleasure. The piece was written by Dan Volker (yes, the guy on SB) in the early 90's.

Frank Hammet was my open water instrctor in 1973. Predating BC's, octos and computers.

I made the dive a number of times. The dive has claimed more lives than the Andrea Doria many say. Most ops are no longer offering it.

No sticks, though, right?

I'm not challenging your dive experience. I was just wondering how someone who can do such exciting and dangerous dives can be afraid of a stick in the water?

Do you walk through any forests? Do you have trees in your backyard?

I should have posted this in the DDCN thread where you spoke about this fear.

gNats, if the dude can't find even his pickle, it should not surprise you that there are some other unresolved issues lurking there.

I don't like freshwater either, find the idea of the things that live there a bit creepy

Yeah, Minnows are really freaking dangerous. When you are in the shallow end of the lake and they come up and nibble on your bare toes...

lol - some of my favorite childhood memories.

You make a good point, maybe I will do a natural lake someday, but not feeling the quarries. My childhood memories were more like having a wave throw us onto the sand while we were riding in, being pulled out by a riptide, stepping on a crab or flounder (now THAT is creepy), or having a flying fish jump right up beside you while you were in the water. The creepiest was an underwater encounter with a glob of seaweed or a school of fish coming by that you didn't know was there.

Never said I was afraid of sticks. Just don't think they have a place in the water. They are creepy. The only thing I can compare them to in the Atlantic is the underside of a Horseshoe crab. The crab though, belongs there. (Well maybe 20,000,000 years ago.
