Dry snorkel tried to kill me!! POS!!
I completely forgot about my dry snorkel (cause i left it on a patch of sand near a reef for someone to enjoy) it is a horrible thing to own (especially for what they cost) and the fact that mine tried to kill me just adds to the level of hatred.
Mine had one of those levers that shuts the tube when you go under... well, it turns out if a wave hits, it will also shut the air passage. So, picture this... me trying to breath... and when i inhale, the dry snorkel does what it's meant to do by closing and not letting water in, add the fact that i was taking a breath of air... and you have an awesome on surface reaction to this piece of crap that someone invented, and cost me upwards of 30 bux! not to mention that now a hand full of people i know think im crazy cause i was on the surface yelling at a piece of plastic! That is all. Thanks.

I never saw the need for a dry snorkel, but some divers don't like the hassle of clearing water all the time and it's for them. I bet you was funny though. Any photo's of the event you care to share?

It was not the snorkels fault. It did exactly what it was designed to do. It was not the companys fault. The saw a market need and filled it.
So who/what are you complaining about? I beleive the only real complaint is that you believed the marketing. Oh, and wasted money and almost drowned and looked like a fool to all your buddies. I would have loved to have seen it. ![]()

One more reason my snorkel has only graced my dive bag twice...once for OW certification, and once for Rescue certification. The only thing a snorkel is good for IMO is snorkeling.

Matt- Unfortunately, no pictures... I wish there was video!!
ektess- I bought it cause at the time they were out of the plain snorkel. I too would have loved to seen it from someone else's eyes. ZenaGirl- They can be useful for shore diving... long surface swims without it suck.

Turn over on your back. Long surface swims are easy.

You're complaining? Do you call yourself an AMERICAN? If true, there be but one response...LITIGATION. Sue the manufacturer for equipment that deprived you of essential oxygen. Sue the beach owner for failing to post signs warning that water may cause drowning and to enter at your own risk. Sue your certification agency to ensure your proficiency when using this vital piece of standard SCUBA equipment. Sue the store that sold it to you and failed to train you in its use.
Get with it, lad. SUE!!!!

I just got delivery of a Cressi Corsica snorkel.
Love the thing. It has no purge valve, no dry top, no weird crap at all. Heck, it doesn't even have a keeper on it. It folds up and fits into a BC pocket and pops right out to original size and shape. In kelp and surge, there are times when you want a snorkel. Then, I can take it out of my BC pocket and slip it under my mask strap and snorkel away. When I don't want it, it's in my pocket.
