LDS Scam

I was checking out a LDS for some travel and everything seemed good until I found this policy....our safety, as well as that of your fellow divers, only equipment that is sold at SeaVentures or another authorized dealer
Trip Equipment Usage Policy
For your safety, as well as that of your fellow divers, only equipment that is sold at SeaVentures or another authorized dealer may be used in our pool, for training or on any SeaVentures sponsored trips. You will be required to provide proof of purchase and service records for your equipment. If you do not or can not provide us with this information, then we can perform a bench test service on your equipment to make sure that it meets safe diving standards.

We enforce this policy for your safety. We see equipment that is incomplete, remanufactured and sold as new, discontinued and even knock-offs. These items were purchased from businesses or individuals that are not authorized dealers for that equipment line. (Usually these are internet purchases).

SeaVentures has a vested interest in your safety. Scuba equipment is used for LIFE SUPPORT when you are underwater. As responsible instructors and mentors, we want to make sure that you enjoy the sport and having certified and well maintained equipment is one of the most important factors in making that happen.

You can rest easy knowing that you purchased your equipment through SeaVentures because we are not only Authorized Dealers for the equipment lines we carry, we are also certified to do the Maintenance and Repair on the equipment. Many of our customers live in the Atlanta area and get the added benefit of being able to come into our store for purchases, repairs, sizing and everything else that comes with being able to interact with us in a brick and mortar store.

I think this sounds like a very fair and safe procedure that is in no way intended to rob patrons of money. I think you should provide us the link for the compnay so that we can all congratulate them.

I think I wouldn't book travel with them as they'll probably be out of business soon.

I'm not going to book anything with them. A nice lady stopped me in the grocery store this morning when she saw my Solo Buceo t-shirt. We started talking and she mentioned this shop and the great trips they had. It sounded good and off to their website I went.

All of my life support gear has been purchased from authorized dealers, serviced, and properly maintained. I just don't like this policy because they are trying to scare customers into only buying from them.

If your service is great and prices fair, then no intimidation is necessary. I will however keep wearing my lucky Solo Buceo t-shirt when grocery shopping

I can see it for classes - but just for trips for already certified divers? I can only assume that's a free bench test service they are offering (requiring?) those divers, since they are sooooo...... concerned about your safety. (Great policy in that case.)

They are talking about a free bench test? Right? Right....?

Looking at their website, I note they run a bus down to the Keys quite a bit. I wonder which dive boat operator they are using down there who requires them to do this for the customers they are bringing down?

Hey, if they can get people to agree to it, so be it. I personally would probably get thown out of that place after speaking my mind a littel too loudly if presented with that BS.

Me too, but I have seen it elsewhere. I don't know why they think they can get away with it but they apparently do because it's not unheard of.

Just the opposite.....

I think we should ALL book a trip with them....

then the day before the trip, call them up and say our gear doesn't meet their trip policy and cancel the trip.

I mean after all, that's what they say they will "enforce" on us.

Yeah, I'd get tossed too. Likely after loudly telling them exactly what a load crap I thought they were shoveling.
