Used Regulator

I bought an used Alpha 8 Sport reg and Zeagle Stiletto BCD from ST and got it in last week. They shipped fast, everything looked great, and i got a free reg bag out of it so i was very happy about the purchase. Today, however, i had a friend come over so we could hook up the reg and double check it. After we connected the first stage to the tank and opened it up it made a strange noise. Didn't think too much of it so took a few breaths from it and another weird vibrating noise. Then, when we turned the valve off it made another noise. So now it looks like i have to get the reg i just bought serviced.

I realize that i bought a used product and there is some risk of something being wrong, but I did think that ST would have serviced the reg before they sent it out. I have heard nothing bad about ST so i feel that they will take care of me or at least give me a fair repsonse in the end. I plan on calling them tomorrow but just thought i'd get others opinions on this.

I agree with CWSwine, get ahold of Joe & they will make it right.
I had a Brand new Reg I bought from ST & it freeflowed on me the first 2 times I dived it. (sent it back to ST twice) I spoke with Joe & he said he had personally checked the reg himself before he sent it back the 2nd time. Then he made it more than right with me!!!

My reg (Legend LX) has been known to make a funny sound and has vibrated once in a while out of the water but it works fine in the water with no noise or vibration. I would be willing to bet it is fine since I never had any problems with mine and the issue sounds similar.

I have no doubt in ST, i'm sure they will take care of me once i call them. I know with used gear you always run the risk of something being wrong, but i thought with a reg things would have been checked very carefully. No worries yet though, even the good slip up every now and then.

I don't think there is really anything wrong with the reg. Many will make a vibrating sound when they aren't in water, and are totally dry. If you have a local pool you can use, then I'd go there & test it. If not, you could even use your bathtub. Just remember, if you use your bathtub, we need pictures.

As many other already mentioned... some regs make noises dry, and means nothing... get in a pool or into a body of water within a few feet of the surface and give it a go before you decide it's down for the count. And now that you mentioned it, I remember that my V16 makes sounds at depth...
