Avoid SharkPoint (DreamDives) at all costs

Shark Point's support is horrible.

If you buy a product, don't count on ever being able to get your data out of it. I bought the Shark Point for Palm OS some years ago, and for years they promised to provide a way to export data. Every 6 months to a year I asked again and either got no response or was told that it was coming.

Finally I got an iPhone and it was clear that the Palm platform was not being developed. I asked support to help me get the data out of it, and was told they no longer even had a Palm to use! It's their own product and they didn't even keep one Palm device?

I was told that they might be able to do something with the .pdb files but no promises. After a couple months, nothing, despite repeated emails.

In the end I had to re-enter all my data by hand into a different program.

I learned my lesson: don't use any dive software that doesn't support import and export or find yourself locked into it.

Let me see if I understand this.....

You bought a product that didn't support exportation.

The company has since, still not developed an export feature.

Now you are mad at the company for not providing an export feature?

Sounds like you should be mad at yourself for buy a POS item, regardless of what they claimed was in the works.

Interesting that his only post on this forum is to gripe about a product. Maybe he would get a little more sympathy if he was a contributer.

It's posted on Scubaboard too and I got the impression there that the software was supposed to have an export feature but they stopped developing it.

Unfortunately....you can't take most companies "at their word". If something isn't developed then I don't believe that it is coming until it actually shows up. I won't buy something based upon a "promise". It's too nebulous.

Amazing response. It's true I joined this board for this purpose -- a horrible experience with a scuba toy. Thought I'd let you all know and vent at the same time.

Eventually i'll participate for other reasons but everyone has a reason to join the first time, right?

As for buying a product without an export feature, mea culpa I guess, but it was promised and nothing after years.

Dont feel too bad, a lot of scuba toys forum members are currently active on scuba board. You have to vent somewhere. It seems the people on both sites with the most vents and comments have 3000 posts and 50-100 dives.

Just keep in mind that not everyone can live next to an ocean. Almost every town has someone in who is a diver. Some of us like to talk about diving too. Many folks are in the same situation as me. I have to drive AT LEAST 4 hours just to get to a divable body of water. I'm going 6 hours to dive this weekend, and it's only to dive a quarry.

How many dives would YOU have if you had to drive that far just to get wet?

I would never live more than 30 minutes from a body of water.

At least the hand-export is a one-time process, and you've learned something in the process.

DivingLog.de is an excellent option to consider, especially since you can sync with add-on software you can run on your iPhone.
