In the old days, when you actually got food (and didn't have to pay extra for it), I got crab legs on the way to and back from NYC-and I was back in the regular people section!!! Now, you're lucky if you don't get that little curtain whipped in your face so you don't go up and use the first class restroom....

The best thanks I got was when I was a young soldier (looong story...) and was trying to get on a flight to Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio as my original flight was cancelled. I'm sweating it as I"m a very green and have a report no later than 1900 that night-it's 1200 right now. I'm told I'm Space A on a very full flight. As they're boarding and the gate attendant is telling me I won't get on this flight but will be able to get on the 1800 flight, a gentleman comes up to me and gives me a ticket and boarding pass.

He says his wife wants to stay in Denver for another day to shop. So I actually flew on his ticket-he didn't want mine in return and said when I got to San Antonio to get a refund on my ticket. 28 years later, I still remember that gentleman and his wife.
