Grandma thinks it's ok to block both lanes of traffic.

When I drove for A water treatment company, standard operating procedure, repeated multiple times each day. Leaning on the horn, yelling out the window, waving out the window. Then to see the look of utter shock on someone's face, realizing they were inches from contact with a 35 foot white box truck. If you are that inatentive while driving, park it and give up your license. Constantly saw people stunned that other vehicles were on the road with them.

I now lift my hands up in the air so Grandma can see I have no clue as to what she is doing blocking both lanes. I then move 1 hand forward & backward in a straight line toward the front & rear of my car, hoping she will move off my lane so I may pass her and go to the next isle.
It felt like 4 minutes but probably less with Grandma not budging forward or backward; Grandma now pulls across my lane and into a parking spot by heading East.
I decide oh well I may as well pull into the spot on the West side which was open the whole time but she declined to back up and pull into. Surely Grandma will not say anything as it's her doing blocking the road...
Wrong...Grandma exits her car as I exit mine and immediately starts yelling, "What did you expect me to do?" ......I was now forced to respond or look like a jerk, so I told her I expected you to move forward or backward and clear my lane of traffic....This explanation was not satisfactory as she said someone was standing in the parking spot she was trying to enter (of course she could have simply parked in the West spot that I was now in). As I proceed to walk into the store she is still going strong loudly saying what did you want me to do?
I now look like a jerk with Granny following me....So I now Loudly reply:::"You are a bad driver if you block both lanes of traffic, You are a bad driver if you block both lanes of traffic----There is no excuse----You are a Bad Driver" I now walk rapidly away from Granny, fearing a caning from Granny since everyone is now looking at Granny wondering if she is competent to drive out of the parking lot.....
Sounds like you might have ran into my mother. She's 79 and we are probably going to have to pull the keys soon. Yesterday, I was pulling out of the doctors office and across the road I seen a car like the one my mother drives trying to get out of a parking space. I watched and yep it was my mother - I know this because her car has a small dent in the bumper that nobody knows how it got there. She was trying to be so careful not to hit anything and in the course took her about 5 minutes to get out of the parking lot.

The DMV is your friend.

My father was a hazard on the highways. Rather than confronting him, we contacted the DMV and explained the situation. So, the DMV called him in for a "random" driving proficiency exam. He failed, of course. License and keys pulled. It was our family's dirty little secret until the day he died.
Well done.

Here in wonderful DC, we have an array of oblivious drivers all of them with tunnel vision. I am beginning to predict what they are going to do, its almost like I'm in their heads.

You should work EMS. You all but get a 6th sense about what the other drivers are going to do.

Drive defensively but remember that every other driver on the road is trying to kill you-plan accordingly!

Really doesn't make me miss the states at all...

here everyone is super patient, and for the most part super courteous... people slow and even stop at times to allow people to pull out from side streets and such - it's amazing... horns here are not used aggressively, but as a friendly "hi" every once in a while, a quick beep to remind someone it's their turn...

gotta love the slower paced island life...

Older people on the road who obviously don't need to be there are my pet peeve too-but I have to remind myself that I'll be there someday and probably just as reluctant to give up my keys and freedom.

On another note, a while back (okay, quite a while back), my college boyfriend's parents came to visit from New Jersey. We were behind someone at a stop sign and the dad immediately starts laying on the horn. I remember saying "Uh, we don't do that here..." as we both scooched down in the back seat so no one would see us.

You assume members of congress drive themselves. No they are too busy arguing amongst themselves about ways to screw the common folk.
